    Debut today!

He looked tidy and I hope see more from him next season. Maybe again at Hull?

Debut assist. And it was lovely to see everyone passing to him when they could.

I know some people are late bloomers, but he's 21 already and not been close to the first team yet. I wouldn't hold you breath about him. APologies for being realistic....

    Ottawa, actually.
An assist in his first game. The omens are good, and although he's now made his debut at an older age when compared to some of our other youngsters (Onomah, CCV, Edwards et al),remember, Mason was no great shakes at 21 either. It took him until the age of 23 to really impact the first-team in a meaningful way, and he ended up giving us two-odd years of loyal first-team service (interrupted by injuries) before moving to Hull.

Winksy only made his competitive debut in August last year - he was twenty then. Lesniak's only just turned 21.

Not saying he'll set the world alight or that he's our next big thing, but 21 is still just the start of a footballer's career - it isn't really anything to hold against Lesniak. And the lad had a good debut - didn't get much time, but got an assist for our talisman. :)

He's already been out on loan, so likely will be sold by August

I suspect with Winks injured and Onomah away with England, he was just the only academy midfielder physically developed enough for adult football.

Have you watched him much playing for the 'reserves'? I read that he was out on loan for the start of the season too.

He was out on loan earlier in the season, so that would've limited his chances.

I think that going out on loan is no longer a sure sign that you are for the exit. Poch seems to have changed his mind on this a little, in some circumstances.

No I haven't. However Poch has publicly said that he wouldn't loan out decent youth players as they're better coached by him and his team

Cannot recall the exact quote but he did soften that stance earlier in the season, acknowledging there are times when it's an option.

No player who has gone on loan under Poch has ever survived. In fact I think Tom Carroll was the only one who survived beyond the next immediate window.

Poch has explicitly said he doesn't loan out players he rates

Lesniak, McGee, Harrison, Walkes, Amos, Miller, Ogilvie and Loft will all be sold/released in the close season

He said under different (inferior) managers:

Since he took over in 2014, Pochettino has refused to let Harry Winks, Josh Onomah and Cameron Carter-Vickers go on loan and he will do the same with the 18-year-olds Marcus Edwards and Kazaiah Sterling. It has reached the stage where the temporary departure of a young player has a slightly ominous feel.

“In different periods something like loaning Harry to Millwall can work,” Pochettino said. “When there was a different profile of coaching staff, for example. In that moment it was good for young players to go. Nowadays it is not so important, although you need to respect every single opinion.

“I prefer to have our young players here and offer them the potential to be first‑team players. If you don’t get the opportunities – like Harry and some other players – to be involved with the first team it is best to move. But when you give those players the opportunity to train with the senior squad that is an even better experience.”

I think that there has been a slight change of approach this season, which may be a result of where we are in the table and the strength of the first team.

I do not know whether Lesniak has a future with us or not, I am just saying that I think that a player being loaned out is no longer a signal that they are on their way out.

Lesniak now has as many assists in the Premier League this season as N'Golo Kante, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, and Marcus Rashford.

Same as our other central midfielders Dembele and Winks. 1 assist more than Wanyama and Dier.

Didn't Wanyama get an assist tonight?

No Wanyama's header came off Simpson for the 3-1 goal.
