American politics

IIRC, Sanders is the most popular politician in America right now. Single-payer healthcare is his core issue and that is very popular (in polls) with the American public, I'll have to google it to give you numbers.
Against Warren, Clinton and Pelosi yes.

Against some serious centrist candidates he'll struggle.

But Clinton was the ultimate Democrat centrist, she had the whole machine behind her and in the end, she only just beat Sanders when he started from nowhere, 60 points behind her in the polls. This time, everyone knows who he is and he would, imo, start as the front-runner in the Democratic nomination process. I think he'd walk it and then he'd beat Trump (he polled better against him than Clinton and this was pre-election).

Then again, he might not want to do it.

I like him as well but he is to old, they need to find a younger version of him really. GHod I hope they get Trump out the guy is awful and has no clear idea of what he wants to do. It is ok being right or left but actually have some policies.

Clinton's also a complete and utter clam though.

You could turn that statement around and say that Sanders lost to someone that people on both sides of the divide almost unilaterally dislike, with a "trust and honesty" rating of a mere 30%. I'd say that failing to beat the candidate nobody likes or trusts is a fairly clear failing.

Sanders popularity has risen since the election I would say, but he'll be too old by the time the next election rolls around. Just pick someone popular and stick a democrat sticker on them.

It was the other nominees who failed. Remember them? Nor do I haha.

Sanders did remarkably well; relatively unknown at the start, 60 points behind Clinton in the polls (because of this), the democratic party machine skewed against him, the leadership, higher-ups, big doners etc...and he almost pulled it off. Like I said, now he has a known name and a brand, I think he'd walk it.

As others have said though, he is probably too old, currently aged 75 (although Trump is 71).

Unfortunately, the leadership will position behind someone like Kamala Harris, play identity politics, have phuck all policies and lose again.

The next candidate Sanders faces (if he chooses to) will be a much tougher opponent. fudge, anyone other than Trump will be more likeable and electable than Clinton.

Clinton (the gets to fudge almost any woman on Earth but still chooses a chubster one) set out a fairly solid middle ground for US politics and there are fairly large numbers that don't like the idea of straying too far from that base. If he (or someone like him) had been running at the last election, we'd all be laughing at what a pathetic share of the vote Trump ended up with. So I think for most Americans, bland, identity politics is probably a safer bet than a Trump or a Sanders who will likely steer too far from the norm for most of the electorate.

You might be right -- but imo, it is this way of thinking that is killing them nationwide. They don't even have to be that radical; just promise single-payer healthcare, the Canadian model, and they would win in a landslide. But so many of their politicians are bought and paid for by the health-insurance industry, they are paralysed by their addiction to corporate money.

the Democrats hurt themselves by only gearing up for the presidentials imo
Every one of them should be mud slinging 24/7, no holds barred. They have an endless supply of ammunition with the current administration but are not using it really. They are hoping the late night TV chat show hosts do their fighting for them.

They don't need to enter the mud slinging game - people voted against disingenuous point scoring politicians.
Saying nothing is smart - you can then say what you need to when you need to.
Right now trump is doing all their work for them.

I don't agree. People also voted for a disingenuous point scoring politician who became president. Playing nice was a failed tactic for them against this man when he was just a candidate. Now is the time to twist the knife.

he's not, because he still has a 34% approval rating

every single democrat should be hammering the gop over everything at every opportunity

This might require them to have some bold ideas of their own on how to make the country better. Some Democrats have these ideas but they aren't supported by the leadership, who favour a "hey, we're not Trump" policy -- I'm not convinced that will work, it didn't work before.

What they need is a positive message, they should be going full tilt for single-payer healthcare, but too many of their politicians get donations from health insurance companies for them to do that. So they will stick with Romneycare, have no good ideas, play identity politics and hope to win by default. IMO, if they do this, they'll lose again.

To be honest, I think most of the democrat politicians would rather lose to Trump than win with someone like Sanders. They are millionaires in thrall to corporate money.

I think that might actually strengthen his position with his supporters creating a seige mentality and back to Trump Vs "the establishment".
Best to wait until the primaries and take it to the GoP, destroying their vote.

But does anyone ( with any brains) take any notice of what these idiots say.

It didn’t take an eagle eye to notice the “Blacks for Trump” signs just over Donald Trump’s left shoulder at his Tuesday rally in Sanford, Florida. The middle-aged white woman enthusiastically waving hers was particularly memorable. But the man next to her, a fringe political figure in South Florida who goes by Michael the Black Man, is the real star here.

A former member of the murderous Yahweh ben Yahweh cult, Michael has found himself with front-row seats to several recent Trump events in South Florida, always waving his “Blacks for Trump” sign and wearing a shirt that says “Trump & Republicans Are Not Racist.” At Tuesday’s rally in Sanford, Trump took notice. “I love the signs behind me. Blacks for Trump. I like those signs. Blacks for Trump. You watch. You watch. Those signs are great,” he said.

Don't know where you get that from, Sanders is a cult figure on the left but little more and single payer will never happen in the US, too many americans see it as "socialist" and too expensive.
