Danny Rose

Pretty much the way i see it as well, Davies is no Rose ( but then neither is Shaw) but i have not seen many better LB's in the Prem then Davies who ( imo) is vastly underated by some of our fans.

Shaw would be better suited to the way we play than Davies, it would come down to whether he can get back on track development wise after so long out

They remains to be seen mate, he has hardly kicked a ball over the last 3 seasons and even now he is ( supposed) to be fit he is hardly used and seeing as all the reports suggest Jose is looking to bring another LB in the summer you have to wonder why.

I don't know that I would go for Shaw on the basis of value for money. He has had a bad injury and essentially had 2 seasons now of downtime with only 29 appearances in the league in 3 seasons. I think I would probably lean more towards £10m or so for Sessegnon plus add ons and allow Poch to mould him as the heir to the Rose position. But even then, 2 young players to come in with bags of talent and potential plus money in the bank. That's the only way a deal for Rose would work to our benefit imo.

Sessegnon will be some player but is 16 and IMO is a long way of the elite level which he will get too

He is also IMO better suited to a winger role for now

I said at the beginning of the season he was one player I wanted because I know a Fulham fan who follows youth football and know his stuff (he also alerted me to the lad who went to city)

See that would be great business for us and them

They get a player who makes them better and we get £££ and a player who will improve our squad in an area of weakness... but we would also need to have Shaw lined up as his replacement before hand to make that viable

Couldn't disagree more. Bottom line is they would be a better team and we would be a worse team if we sell Rose.

The first rule for Spurs, which I'm sure Levy agrees, should be to never sell your best players unless you have no choice.

Second rule should be to avoid strengthening your rivals if your best players want out.

Selling top players because the money allows you to strengthen other areas of the team, is always a gamble. Why risk it? Rose is the best left back I've seen us have in my 25 years supporting Spurs (better than Bale was when he played there), and I'd be furious if we now allow him to leave for City in the current situation, when there's absolutely no indication he's unhappy and wants out.

Yep I rate Davies highly. He is more than a decent player who is improving quickly with experience (and is still surprisingly young).

He has one flaw (probably more but one but one that is a minor irritation to me) in that too many of his attempted deliveries or passes just hit the guy standing in front of him. Obviously the guy is there to try and block the ball but Davies more often not obliges by smacking it straight at him. A little more guile or disguise will pay big dividends here.

Good player though, just not Rose.

Agree Davies hits the first man too often - but so does Walker.

Every players has a price and that's true for every player at any club... it would be a crazy number for some players yet eventually someone will pay it

True

£50m for Rose is amazing money for a full back.

In the current market £50m is just the opening bid for one of the best full backs in Europe. And £50m is not much when you consider how much we spunked on Sissoko, N'Koudou and Janssen. n

Just as Berbatov, Modric and Bale were only sold because they effectively forced a move I am not worried about Rose leaving unless he makes his position at Spurs untenable. Despite the fee Daniel Levy would not have sold Bale if he had not effectively forced a move.

So far Rose has not said or acted in any way to make me think he wants out, and if he did I would expect Levy to get more than £50m for the simple reason we know that Emirates Marketing Project are happy to pay £50m

From the Guardian: Pochettino offered a fitness update on Danny Rose, who has not played since the draw at Sunderland on 31 January because of a knee problem. It sounded as though the left-back had suffered a setback because he has been sent to see a specialist. Pochettino said Rose was behind Harry Kane in his rehabilitation and Kane, who is out with an ankle injury, is expected to return towards the end of April. Kane started to do some running work this week.

“Rose will see the specialist and then we will see,” Pochettino said. “He is a little bit further behind Harry Kane but we are positive, too.”

Hmmm. Hope he is back for Chelsea. Would seriously boost my feeling on our chances given how both FBs killed them in January

Rose is still a massive, massive miss :( If we play Vorm instead of Lloris, and miss Rose... I doubt we will beat Cheatski

Yeah my feeling is we will need our absolute best team to win the big games we have left this season.

I reckon Kane will be back for Watford so hopefully Rose will be back for bornemouth and if not, then the semi.

Amazing how long he's been injured with the club appearing to be somewhat clueless on his return throughout. Hopefully they've known all along and have been keeping their cards close to their chest.

Fwiw I'd be stunned if vorm started the semi. Remember Poch said similar things before the league cup final and then Hugo started.

They are indeed 'keeping their cards close'. It's what all football clubs do, nowadays. Clubs are very circumspect about what the full extent of an injury is. I love how they express player ailments in the National Hockey League nowadays - a lower/upper body injury.

That said, I do miss Danny Rose. He's been in rampaging form most of the season and the past few seasons. Great asset.
