I have this horrible feeling it'll be United and he'll rediscover his best form....*shudders

It's actually a horrible feeling when I keep on realizing this situation still hasn't been resolved, one of many things that irked me regarding the summer transfer dealings

Have you forgotten telling me not to worry so much regarding the state of our squad and concerns re management?

I was talking about how quickly fans have forgotten how Ericksen was so important on our way up.

Speaking for myself mate, I haven't forgotten but also think it is equally important that it be noted we chose to play through him, thus helping spotlight his doubtless fine abilities. I have often wondered how different our style might've been had we managed to seal the Mane deal a few years back.

Being reported now that Madrid are contemplating making an offer to buy Eriksen in January, rather than risk missing out on him in the summer. (which doesn't really make sense if they can sign him up in January on a free for the following season - why would they miss out then?), and/or Zidane is now a convert and wants him in immediately, depending on the report.

My whole thesis over the summer was that we were switching shape to more of a 433 to remove the need to have a single play maker.

Its undeniable he has been magnificent at times for us, but also undeniable he represents something of a weakness for us, as any single player does when they are the main lynchpin in the team.

I figured a more mobile midfield 3, all able to to contribute forward and defensively, would negate the need for an explicit person responsible for holding things together. Say, Winks, NDombele and Lo Celso perhaps...

Zidane won't have until end of season, if he thinks Eriksen is the answer it would make sense for them to go for him in January. And I watch them, he would make an instant impact.

Eriksen is a funny one, no question for me he is a world class player, people have their opinions but my point of view has softened on him

    - He is one of the most important players for us, but we never quite built the team around him (he plays deep, plays more/less defensive, center, out wide depending on rest of team makeup)
    - He hasn't improved in last couple of years, our coaching isn't getting anymore out of him (other than the ability to outrun most players every game)
    - The compressed midfield doesn't help him, it's when he has space he is extremely dangerous to opposition.

In hindsight we should have chosen to build the team around him and Kane and making the other players fit in, instead we have fudged around with Eriksen, Son, Dele, Lamela, Lucas with no idea of who is center, wide, offensive, defensive and it hasn't helped anyone of them.

My hope is when he leaves (unlike when Walker left), we adapt how we play and don't try to play as if he is still here.

Claim Daniel Levy has enlisted intermediaries to get offer for Tottenham player
    By Sport Witness Team -

    10th October 2019

Christian Eriksen is big news in Spain today, with both Marca and AS having the Tottenham player on their front page.

The AS slant is that Real Madrid would like to sign him in January for €30m, but the player is keen to wait until he’s a free agent so he can get a huge pot of gold.

Marca report Madrid will ‘make an offer’ for Eriksen, determined not to let a good value signing slip away. They want to go about everything by the book, so would only reach an agreement with him from January 1st onward.

The possibility of an offer to Tottenham before then isn’t ruled out, with it being known by Marca that Spurs are keen to sell in January.

Daniel Levy, according to the claims, has enlisted intermediaries he trusts to get an offer for the winter market, not wanting to lose his player for nothing months later.

There are differences between the Marca and AS reports, and it very much feels like someone has spoken to both newspapers and given them the bones of a story. From there, they’ve taken their own slants on the matter.

Interestingly, Marca make it clear that Zinedine Zidane hasn’t wanted Eriksen, and also that the player doesn’t completely fit the profile being looked for, however, it’s felt like too good an opportunity to ignore.

Very much like when Thibaut Courtois was signed from Chelsea.

Zidane is a complete moron, Eriksen behind Hazard, Benzema & Bale in a slower paced league is a no brainer at the cost they will get him at. The fact that he actually brings a work ethic to a team full of lazy fudgers is another bonus.

That alone should tell you it's gonad*s, there's loads of holes in that story, almost as many as our defence.

I think Poch's move to the diamond is exactly this.

He wants rid of Bale though.

I think Madrid will negotiate a pre contract deal in early January to sign Eriksen on a Bosman in the Summer. They can then offer us a small amount of money to take him off our hands early. I doubt that amount would be any more than about £15 million max.

I always took the diamond as a "needs must" option to help us muddle through last season, not a by design, next stage in our evolution type thing.

And I think just how poorly its been implemented bears that out.

Id go further to say, if this really is Pochs idea of the future - sack him now. He clearly cant get it to work and to stubbornly continue trying is to everyones detriment.

We never had a single playmaker though. The beauty of our 4-2-3-1 was how Eriksen and Alli interchanged as the playmakers, while Son/Moura provided the more direct option. And we had two holders and width from the FBs.

And yet everything went through Eriksen. And if Eriksen wasnt on his game, we werent on our game.

I don't think that Poch really does 'needs must' especially not for long periods of time.

I think you get too worried about formations. The diamond can work no problem if you have the right players in the right positions. With a few players back fit again we are only really a right back and holding midfielder away from being able to field a very good team that uses the midfield diamond.

I think Eriksen was the main playmaker though. It was often his quick passes that turned defence into attack.
