Christian Eriksen

Indeed, like the whole team if we're honest...

But we are talking about Eriksen. Not the entire team.

There are a number of players that could and should do a lot better.

Difference is, Eriksen really is a potential game changer.

Doesnt matter how much Trippier improves, for example, he can never be someone to drag this team up a level or to a result.

Eriksen could be. Eriksen could play so well the whole team is better as a result.

Coulda, shoulda, woulda..we could be as good as Emirates Marketing Project if everyone could play better, we could be in the title race if we'd kept a clean sheet vs Arsenal in both games etc etc

I fear to think where we'd have been in Eriksen was injured for longer than he was in the autumn. As many have said he is the one who makes my pants sticky and we have no replacement for. Imagine if we had an alternative we could use to rotate for him when he has a dip etc? He literally has had to play every minute most games.

I guess, you're already preparing your mind for if/when Eriksen is sold?

I think it would be prudent, showcase lamela if we are thinking of moving him on (not convinced we are), give Eriksen a rest, or a shake and game time for Moura and Vic which could be va for the run in.

Possibly risky given that Dortmund have two of their biggest hitters back, but with a 3-0 lead, perhaps we might just be able to afford it...just...

Have to say that up until about Christmas I thought Eriksen was missing having Wanyama and or dier behind him, but Sissoko and winks have done such a good job Im not so sure we can use that any more.

With his ability, he should be much more consistent imo. What I can't understand is how his dead ball kicking has gone so far downhill. He used to be one of Europes top free-kick scorers. Nowadays he is just totally ineffective. Not to even mention his corners................!

That's the thing Sissoko and Dier were 'doing a job' from a least a defensive midfield POV, but i think that can only go so far as they are not specialists in that area and now are being found out. Eriksen will benefit form Dier/Wanyama for sure..

And if my aunt was my uncle... yeah I get it - you either dont see it or dont agree.

I dont think I can have been any clearer, so Ill just bow out here.

I don't know, it isn't and never has been his strong side and he's never really defended. At best he has tried to get in the way. I haven't seen him try to do any better recently, he's just got worse at it.

I know, i mean Dier/Wanyama/another specialist defensive-minded CM would mean Eriksen's weakness in the area wouldn't be so crucial and he might be able to concentrate on our attacking play

It’s so obvious to me that Eriksen is struggling because of the current system of 2 forwards playing narrow instead of the 4231. On Saturday Son was standing next to Kane and if he couldn’t pass to either of those it was then only to a full back.

He’s someone who wants to pass forward and most times he looked up Son and Kane were together and marked. We had no high width at all.

Think of City with Sterling, Sane, Mahrez or even Saturday Arsenal had wide out balls to Iwobi and Makhytarian and used them regularly. In this current system CE is restricted imo.

He’ll be absolutely fine once Dele returns and we revert to 4231 or 433. The 5212 is getting the best out of no one imo! That said - I expect to see it again tonight.

The question people are missing, if we want/expect Eriksen to run the game, dominate matches, why are we asking him to run so much?

To me running a match is being offensive … not running a brickload to cover the fact that our FBs are way out of position, and our DMs are brick..

We ask him to do both, because he can. When in form he does both to a very high level. Perhaps he would be more consistent as an attacking player with less defensive responsibility, but I think we would be worse as a team.

He's always had these runs of poor form. He's always played his way back to form. Hopefully it will come soon.

The guy is going through a bad run for sure. Nothing is coming off. But you can see how important he is as we are failing to tick as a team up front as he goes through a spell of poor form. Imo he is a top player and will come through it. In the meantime he needs our support.

Played as dm tonight pretty much.

He isnt going through a bad run or bad form. He is doing what he is told. The midfield is in a mess and he's had to fill in.

It's like Poch moving Kane to right back and then complaining he's not scoring as much as he used to.

You can control/dominate a game from deep, he has himself many times and i believe central in the middle three is where he learned his trade at Ajax, so not an alien role for him by any means.

Yet still played several "chance creating passes" including being involved in the goal (either Harry or Son should have made more of at least one of the early opps).

Everyone has opinions, so I'll leave it here, but watch the first half of that game where the entire team is struggling to cope with Dortmund and look at his contribution (worked haed as a DM and created our only out ball several times and was one of the few not constantly losing the ball).
