Champions League 2017/18

Yep, I was thinking that the other day. We are 20th currently and of the other teams above us in the coefficients (I speak 'UEFA'!):
- Leverkusen are currently 12th in the Bundesliga
- Arse will surely struggle to finish top 4 this year, so them being in the CL might come down to them winning the EL
- Schalke currently 6th in Ger, though early days

...so if those three don't qualify then we'd be 17th highest qualifier as currently stand, assuming we qualify for the CL next year. Problem is we'd need one more spot - for that we might need to at least make the quarters (there's quite a big gap above us in the standings), or perhaps hope that Benfica (currently 3rd in Portugal, outside the 2 CL spots) don't qualify or someone above us loses in a play-off. I think it took Man C a few seasons of qualifying to become 2nd seeds to not a surprise
This season we were the 16th highest qualifier but were leap-frogged by lower ranked teams, Monaco and Spartak Moscow, who were champions of their domestic leagues and therefore received a spot in Pot 1. The same happened last year when we also had the 16th highest coefficient of group stage entrants but were overtaken by Leicester and CSKA.

At the moment though, Barca are top in Spain, Dortmund/Bayern top two in Ger, Man C top in England, Napoli in Italy, PSG in France....all above us in the UEFA rankings. Not sure which are currently the 6th and 7th divisions but if its Portugal and Russia, then Porto and Zenit are above us in the rankings. Feels like it could be very close - the three I mentioned before might well not qualify for the CL, Sevilla are 5th in Spain, Benfica not their usual selves....

Italian teams are on the rise again aren't they? Juve has been the only really good team the last years but now we have Roma and Napoli both looking really good.

It would be very good for England's coefficient if Chelsea beat Roma. They're highly likely to go through either way.

Atletico Madrid are in deep brick! Trailing 0-1 at home to Quarabag, and sit bottom with 2 points, 5 points from 2nd atm.
