I agree that if I was doing something I loved and had been paid ridiculous amounts of money to do so, securing my future, I would make choices that allowed me to enjoy my position, regardless of the offered salary.

There is ample evidence that this thinking doesn't apply in elite football. It's strange, but possibly associated with the level of commitment and confidence required to be a top footballer. Most seem to value the contract as a measure of their worth.

There are people like Peter Crouch who take the more common-sense view that he can still be paid excellent money to play the game he loves at a lower level, but he seems an exception, possibly because he never achieved or expected to achieve the top level.

It's all very odd, Zidane wants rid but chairman vetoes transfer despite him promising Zidane total control, don't think this will end well for anyone.

Chairman probably already looking at the end of last seasons performances along with their awful pre-season and already dreaming of Mourinho.

    10/3 at Paddy.

Zidane seemed to do well first time round. Bringing through youth, positive vibes, good team set up...

Since he went back, its just been brick hasnt it?

I thought they were terrible against us. Pre season, I know, but even so they looked bang average. Left me wondering why Eriksen would even want to go there!

the most logical explanation to them blocking Bale's moves to China is that they don't expect ZZ to be around for long and assume his replacement will want Bale

I wonder if this hole Bale situation is what will lead to Zidane going again?

When he came in he had them over a barrell and demanded power/final say etc. And as soon as he has tried to exercise it Perez has over ruled him.

Cant imagine thats going to end well...

There's usually a direct correlation between how much you earn and how much you spend so yeah I'd take the money in China.

Id love to know what he has been up to to consistently spunk £300k (and the rest) a week for the last 6 years...

Especially when he renowned for being boring and just going home all the time.

Bit of a stretch there mate, I think its a safe bet to say he is absolutely set for life already and that Chinese money is of little consequence in real terms.

But even I, with an average yearly salary, equivalent of 2-3 days of Bales earnings, have manged to save up and invest enogh to not have to worry when I eventually stop working.
If he's not managed that, he can just fudge off. He's become a fudging spoiled lazy and entitled brat, and I genuinely hope he never wears a Spurs shirt again.

Perez vetoed the transfer without a transfer fee. That's not totally unreasonable if he thinks they could get 30-40m. It would be strange if total power to the manager meant he could get rid of any player without a transfer fee. Similarly, a manager can't just spend what he wants, the chairman has to have a veto on financial matters at some point.

Any way, pass the popcorn while we wait for the ending.

Im not convinced thats the reason.

Perez, of all people, would be well aware of the deal from the very beginning. I find it hard to believe they got to the last points of it and he says "What? We dont get paid? Thats it! Its off!"

Sounds more to me like an excuse rather than a reason.

As to Zidane, I agree with you - no manager should have that authority at all. In his defence, it was never made clear just how much say he would have in things - only that he leveraged their desperation for a manager to get more control of the squad/players in and out.
