Part of the reason why £5 million out and £10 million in does not equal a £5 million profit.

All stats are interesting but must be taken in context. Eg we pay an agent £4 mill but he brings the price we pay down by £4 mill. Conversely we pay an agent £4 mill when the player desperately wants to come to us and it is just a bonus for the agent. Bit simplistic but you get my drift.

A fair amount of that could have been spent on punting the deadwood around.

You do it by becoming an agent. It's like becoming an actor or a pop star.

You must be licensed by FIFA, but I'm not sure exactly what goes into getting one of those.

I think the most difficult thing is probably to actually get the clients, and of course you need to know people and know people who know people to find the good deals. All about contacts.

    Re: O/T Agent Fees

It's much easier to get the contacts if you give backhanders to managers for generating the fees in the first place. Very much like the world of ambulance chasers and insurance companies.

    Re: O/T Agent Fees

Levy deals with all the agents, sets transfer fees, wages etc. Ever wondered how we seem to manage to snatch players away from Liverpool, or get very good players to sign within our tight wage structure? We have the player's agent persuade the player it's a good move, and we get the agent to do that by......?

    Re: O/T Agent Fees

Levy will deal with the agents of the players chosen by the manager. There's not much Levy can do if the manager wants a constant churn of sales/purchases/loans generating loads of fees rather than fewer, longer-term purchases.

That's why managers who are chummy with agents are a bad idea.

    Re: O/T Agent Fees

That's simply not true. Levy deals with ALL negotiations. The Manager may pick a player he likes, but then Levy will be the one to conduct the talks. Levy won't be held to ransom, and sometimes that works in our favour and sometimes not. I do know for a fact that the agency sum involved in the Sigurdsson deal was mind blowing.

    Re: O/T Agent Fees

The chairman can try to argue down (or up if it helps) individual fees, but if a manager is determined to create lots of fees with a high player churn there's not a lot the chairman can do. He can refuse the manager all his players but the manager will then go to the press and complain he's getting no help from the board.

    Re: O/T Agent Fees

So... how do we put these into context? If we spent roughly £100m and £10m on agent fees, that is about 10%

What did the others spend and what is their percentage?

Come on stattos, you know you can't resist calculating the numbers

Considering our lack of incoming players. I'm guessing the bulk of those fees are for AVB going. Sherwood coming in and going and Poch and his team coming in.
    It seems excessive.
