Danny Rose

Pochettino remaining fairly tight-lipped about the expected length of his and other absences; would only repeat that everyone is positive (press conference video in match thread).

LATEST ON DANNY ROSE FROM MAURICIO

Posted on 9 February 2017 - 10:00

Mauricio Pochettino has positve news on Danny Rose.

The flying full-back was forced out of the action in the first half of our Premier League clash at Sunderland on January 31 after injuring his knee in 50-50 challenge.

Danny had a scan last week and Mauricio reported on Thursday morning: "Danny is doing well, he’s very positive and we’re very positive.

"After seeing the specialist we’re happy with the assessment and now it’s only about recovery and building his fitness to be available as soon as possible. It’s good to see him improving every day."

Had to come and find this thread for an update. Some clam at work told me he was out for the season - thought I'd missed the news.

Is he fit for Fulham?

No, I don't think so.
In the pre-Gent team news, whereas Poch specifically mentioned that Jan could be back for Sunday (starting 11 or bench).
his comment on Rose was that “Danny Rose is on plan, he’s very positive, a good reaction after his injury".
I think it was reported we were aiming to have him back for Everton.

We miss everything about him. His pace is so important to the way we (try to) play but we have sorely missed his commitment and tenaciousness in the last couple of games.
Who would have thought that he would become so pivotal not only to our defence but to our attack as well.

He also has a bit of a nasty edge, which is something we need. So does Dier. So does Dele. We need that to come through a bit more right now. We need to fight harder and Danny Rose knows how to do it. Oh and all the skill stuff too :)

You are right. And if you think about Danny he has evolved from having a hot-headed, see-red tendency to the more controlled but effective 'nasty edge' you mention that we see nowadays. He knows when to deploy it. Dele still has the impetuousness associated with inexperience (although he has tempered a lot, though not all, of the niggly stuff this season). Dier definitely has the edge but it seems to me that he is trying just a bit too much right now to be the hard man/enforcer, (youth and inexperience again) but it is a role we definitely need and he should be encouraged to develop and refine that role. They all have exactly the attitude and attributes that we need and I wouldn't want to take that side of their play away at all.
Back to topic, let's get Rose back asap. I believe that will give a lift to the whole team.
