He would be an awesome signing.

I cannot believe people are saying he's too old and past it. The things we have missed this season are goals from our strikers, experience (our squad is incredibly young) and a winners mentality, villa has won everything you can in the game.

David Villa has all of those in abundance. He can also play on both wings, and behind the striker.

Villa keen to join but deal could hinge on whether Spurs get CL cash to pay wages. Will offer £110k-a-week. Arsenal interest has cooled.

@themilts Wages are the problem but they think it can be done, especially as the player is keen

Sounds all good but I ain't reacting until anything official is said by either party (to announce signing or deny reports) and I do have a feeling that Sunday will be the major factor in whether or not this deal happens.

Also quite possible that these tit bits of info are designed to get another party to act and pay up for Villa. Arse or someone else.

From here to September there will be plenty of these. We'll see what happens.

Very true.

And we all know where we learned that lesson.

it would be a gamble, 10m for a 31 year old is not good business regardless who he is. If we do buy him and don´t get CL football next season, then we have flushed 10m down the toilet

Where do you stand on 24mil for RVP then?? Only a year younger.

If this is in any way true, that David Villa would be 'keen' to join Spurs, it's an absolute no-brainer. Sign him the fudge up.

Injury-prone? Wasn't that our issue with Ba? Remy? (present situation isn't an injury worry). Lack of PL experience? Cisse, Benteke, Michu. This is DAVID VILLA for fudges sake.

Very good point about RVP's age. Every bit as injury prone as Villa too.

I suppose that the counter argument is that Utd can afford to take that kind of risk more than we can. But then, £10 million is considerably less of a risk than £24 million.

This is the next Klinsmann for us. Lets face it, players of this calibre don't really come to clubs like Spurs unless there is some question mark over them. Absolutely worth the gamble IMHO.

It's David fudging Villa. A man who was considered the best striker in the game not 2 or 3 seasons ago.

I worry he's done, he's not looked the same since the injury

wtf do i know though, I thought jack Rodwell was gonna be a great signing for city

He's been like Tom Hanks in that film 'The Terminal'. Must have been living at Stansted terminal for about 5 years now waiting for the go ahead to join us..

He has 15 goals in 37 games this season in all competitions, he's fine.

I agree with you.

Slightly more detailed stats look even better as a lot of his appearances are as a sub:

La Liga: 9 goals in 14 starts and 11 sub appearances
CL: 1 goal in 5 starts and 5 sub appearances
5 goals in 5 games in the cup I think (checked whoscored.com stats, they weren't in there, but the always reliable Wiki says so).

Most of his games have also been playing in a wider position, primarily wide left. Although he might be getting more chances from that position for Barca than he would as a lone striker for us.

The Barcelona star wants to move to Spurs but deal could hinge on Champions League qualification, with the Londoners ready to sell Emmanuel Adebayor as they plan for summer window

By Greg Stobart

Tottenham have launched an ambitious £10 million move to sign Barcelona striker David Villa in the summer - though the switch could hinge on Champions League qualification.

Goal.com understands Villa has told Spurs he would be very keen to move to the north London club should they match his wage demands, with Spurs prepared to offer £110,000-a-week to land the Spain international.

Tottenham are planning a summer overhaul of their attacking options and will listen to offers for Emmanuel Adebayor, who has scored just five Premier League goals this season and has an uncomfortable relationship with manager Andre Villas-Boas.

Villas-Boas’ side will clinch a place in the Premier League top four on the final day of the season on Sunday if they beat Sunderland and Arsenal fail to win at Saudi Sportswashing Machine.

A place in next season’s Champions League would be worth at least £35m to the Londoners - and would significantly increase their summer spending budget.

Villa, 31, has emerged as a leading target and the club believe they can convince him to accept a cut on his £140,000-a-week salary at Barcelona, although his representative Victor Onate has been described as “difficult” and would demand a significant agent’s fee.

Spurs tried to rival Arsenal for Villa’s signature in the January transfer window but Barcelona refused to sell Spain’s all-time top scorer midway through the season.

The Gunners are believed to have cooled their interest in Villa while Barcelona are now prepared to sell the striker in the summer as they look to freshen up their squad.

Villa has scored 15 goals in all competitions this season but has struggled for form and fitness since suffering a broken leg in December 2011.

The former Valencia man is eager for a fresh start and would welcome a move to the Premier League. Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is ready to adjust the club’s strict wage budget this summer to convince Gareth Bale to sign a new contract and to attract star names to White Hart Lane.

In addition to Villa, Villas-Boas also wants a powerful striker to lead the line as a replacement for Adebayor and remains interested in long-term target Leandro Damiao of Brazilian club Internacional.

Spurs are also monitoring Christian Benteke’s situation but are not prepared to match Aston Villa’s £20m asking price for the Belgian following his 19 Premier League goals this season.

Adebayor has come to life in the final weeks of the campaign but has frustrated both the Spurs staff and the crowd with his below-par performances since completing a £5m switch from Emirates Marketing Project last August.

Villas-Boas has an uneasy relationship with the Togolese after he complained about his lack of first-team opportunities earlier in the season.

Adebayor’s wage demands means Spurs may find it difficult to find a buyer for the ex-Arsenal forward - and Villas-Boas only wants to sell the 29-year-old once he has a replacement in place.

Ahh yes the euphoria of a big name signing. Remember when respected journo Tancredi Palmeri said Sneijder was all but done.
