Harry Winks

Because massively upgrading a player should make all of the rest of the team better, and one of Sissoko and Ndombele is a good footballer:

Are you sure you are not a closet politician? Because that is as disingenuous as the best of them.

Comparing stats for Ligue 1 where decent midfields are less than a handful with the full Premiership season? Low, even by your Sissoko standards...

It will be interesting to see how Winks performs this afternoon, because if he does well then the issue could well be that his ball retention is a good asset against teams that play an open game and press us high (though he was not particularly outstanding against Emirates Marketing Project, but then few are) but he does not provide what we need against teams that park the bus, where more incisive and quicker passing from deep is needed to disrupt the opposition shape.

So what is he doing then? He's not a DM, at least not a very good one, because he's not good at blocking off space, he's quite easy to get past, often doesn't track runners.
In current state he's pretty much useless. All he does is slow us down by endlessly passing sideways.
But that’s not the case

He plays more forward passes than any player in our team other than Hugo

Stick Winks in the City or Liverpool team and it word be a totally different outcome for the lad.
Winks is currently not playing in a form team we are 'struggling' and coincidentally so is Winks as are many. Other than Sissoko and Hugo who is playing well?

Erm, i said the game vs Real Madrid at WEMBLEY!!

You're correct in that match he did make a couple of good passes particularly the one to Son first time on the volley that was sweet and the sort of thing I've been hoping to see from him regularly. The pass to Trippier for goal was good also but nothing that I wouldn't expect a good player in his position to be able to see and execute. Otherwise in that match his passing much like now safe and simple. Safe and simple is not neccesairly a bad thing as there is a time and a place to play the probing pass but that is all he does now along with being paired with Sissoko who can't pass beyond 5 yards with any conviction it makes us very slow and ponderous and easy for the opposition to defend against.

Again teams don’t play like that against every team either

For some reason teams don’t park the bus deep vs pool. They play defensive but further forward. It could be because pool score early and we all know that early goal is vital

Jorginho IMO does not play any positive passes forward. I think he is bang average myself

I don't know how much of Jorginho you've actually watched but that type of passing is what he specialises in. His weakness lie in his defensive game and intensity not passing range and execution.

Lots of him TBF
Watched him in Italy
Let him have time he is decent
Pressurise him and he crumbles
I’ve seen him kick the ball out in games rather than take a tackle

I don't disagree with your criticisms here, but you said earlier that he can't / doesn't forward pass when that is specifically his main strength....

No I meant he doesn’t do incisive passes
He passes safe a lot
Arguably more than winks
And he does NO defending or running either
Hence why he has no assists or goals of note in this league

Actually, @scaramanga - care to find a Sissoko in Lge 1 for comparison?
I'm genuinely interested, not trolling.
(Ok, genuinely interested AND trolling)

The top PL sides are far better than in Ligue 1. Most of the dross isn't much different.

He was ok, very nice play in the buildup to the penalty.

I do wonder how he will do with a partner who presents a passing threat from deep.

I thought he was OK yesterday, although I thought both he and Eriksen were too passive for Arsenal's equaliser where they gave Guendozi (or however you spell it) too much time and space to pick a pass. Actually watching yesterday's game I was impressed with the way that Guendozi seemed to really want to run the game. I thought he was probably the best player on the pitch overall.

There was more space for Winks to play in and the team moved the ball quicker.
We are fine against an Arsenal but we cannot break down the 'park the bus' defences and thats the sad truth.

I agree, i was impressed when i saw him last season and he seems to have lifted his game this season. He has just turned 20 and could turn out to be a very good player for them.
