Ndombele

We need a squad to be able to play a variety of formations, we've become too slow and predictable this season.
Liverpool played the same formation almost all season didn't they?

It's as much (or more) about the style of play, performance of the players and changing players playing somewhat different roles within the same formation imo.

Similar formation but would mix it up with different players e.g. Fabinho for some games vs Milner etc. Winjilandim for some games where they maybe wanted a bit more thrust, Henderson where they felt more leadership was needed etc.

Ive not seen much of this lad, only had 60 top flight games and talking big money, is he all that? Must be for the hype just interested from someone who might have seen more of him....

If he replaces Sissoko in the diamond, our midfield will be a paperweight.

If by some miracle he comes, he's replacing Winks.

Agree with the other two formations.
If he joins us I suspect it will be a long time before we see this diamond again (barring another year where our 3 first choice midfielders are all unfit).

Looks more likely we'll try and move towards a true 4-3-3. One dedicated holding and two box to box, especially if Ericksen goes. Historically we've always played our best football with a 4-2-3-1 but perhaps that is too reliant on specialised personal for it to be successful long term.
Ndombele is what was missing from the successful 4-2-3-1 (Dembele). It would be strange to buy the perfect part and then shift away from that formation.

We do have a squad that can play a variety of formations. We routinely change formation multiple times a game. Our problem for much of last season is that we were forced into picking a team from who was fit and had a bench of what was left and kids.

I'm looking forward to reading future quotes from Aulas about the negotiations on this deal.
I suspect there's a fair amount of professional and mutual appreciation between him and Levy for doing their best by their own clubs.

There was comments around the time of the Njie deal that they'd actually become good friends by that point. Levy obviously made some good wine choices when we hosted them in the EL in 2013.

Seriously. I know £66m is a lot of dough, but we can settle on £55m and add some easy-to-meet incentives that'll take the final price to £66m. It should be a no-brainer. Of course, for all we know, they may have already agreed and the only sticking point is how much now, how much later, and how much in the form of incentives. I really hope that's the case. I don't usually get disappointed by Levy's bargaining tactics, because we have been a 2nd tier team for the most part, and his tactics were appropriate given our status. But now there needs to be some reconsideration, given we are in the top tier.
