Kieran Trippier

Another lovely cross from Trippier. Harry's eyes must light up every time Tripps gets the ball out wide in the final third.
Yes, it was noticeable that rather than celebrating the header he was staring at Trippier intensely and saying something like that's what I'm talking about Chippy, that's the monkey

I wish managers would stop putting Trippier on the post for corners. Was it against Colombia or Croatia that he also got left a foot underneath one, that bounced up under the crossbar?

It's comparable with putting Trump on Mastermind for the specialist subject of geography.
But if you put a taller player on the post for corners that means Trippier has to mark someone (or a zone) that could be marked by a taller player?

Putting your shortest players on the posts (or at the edge of the area) is pretty standard, and I think overall it's the best decision. Unless we change to a Watford type squad some shorter players will have to do jobs that taller players would be more suited to on corners, putting them on the post will sometimes be costly. For me asking them to challenge for a header would be more costly.

Watching him every week he looks good at times, very good at other times but he is also a weakness when we are under pressure, he gets caught out of position and leaves acres of space behind him.

Looks tired to me, things not quite coming off, if we are playing a back four I’d give Aurier or KWP some starts.

There is a fine line between brave and stupid. Trippier showed that with his attempt at a nutmeg in that position.

He is a class footballer, but if you keep making very silly decisions that lead to chances or goals against, then you can't play in defence. For me, Trippier plays when we play with 3 centre-halves, in a back 4 no thanks.

What you say makes a lot of sense. Problem is that his only replacement is Brain Fart Mark 2+; indeed, I have a suspicion that Poch has lost confidence in Aurier... So it's either switching to a back three (not a bad idea with Dembele's being out for weeks) or sticking with Trippier

Let’s not pretend these silly errors have only started this year, he’s never been a good defender.

100%. Always looked poor especially in a 4. If Aurier could consistently play like he did in Milan, I’d have him in all day long. Not sure Aurier has that in him but Trippier has handed him the chance to prove himself with his last two games.

Tonight was a a travesty of a performance. A right back performance of such bricktiness not seen since the days of David Kerslake.

Aurier isn't my favourite player either, but he has looked ok this season when he's played. Might be time to give him a chance and at he same time, give Trippier a kick up the ar5e.

If we didn't have some many problems in centre midfield, I'd suggest giving Dier a try at right-back, especially in games against top sides. Bit like when Guardiola used to play Puyol at RB to deal with Ronaldo (I'm not comparing Dier to Puyol) or when Klopp played Gomez at right-back against Emirates Marketing Project and dropped Alexander Arnold for that game.

I think he is getting worse, last season he only seemed to struggle with pace, this season he’s struggling with everything.

Definitely looking like a weak link defensively, which I think means he'll be in the spotlight even more as teams will target us down his side.

I think the lack of real competition is a problem, especially as Aurier doesn't exactly give us a solid/safe alternative to sure things up.
