Watford at home towards the end of last season. Got roasted on numerous occasions and Watford aren’t exactly high class opposition.
Going forward he ticks all of the boxes but 1v1 defensively he’s still susceptible against pace or anyone half decent. Hopefully Poch can improve him like he did with Rose.

You mean our 2-0 victory at Wembley in April? From memory I'd accept Richarlison had one or two good moments against him but overall Trippier did enough defensively to contain him and eventually came out on top imo.
Whatever, the media widely awarded him MotM, so your verdict seems a tad harsh.

From what I recall he got done at least 2-3 times in the first half then improved in the second half. I'm not surprised he got plaudits for his attacking prowess as he's one of the best RB's in the world in an attacking sense and appears to be getting better every week, no one has ever questioned him going forward. That said, I don't think we should have to pretend that he doesn't struggle against pace or against anyone half decent from the defensive side of the game. I'm sure Poch, Trippier and the coaching staff are working on those areas so he can improve.

My thoughts as well, i do not think i or anyone else is having a go at him but he is far better in a five then a four.

Your statement implies that Poch and his coaching staff have not already been working on his defensive skills which seems odd. Look, Trippier is never going to be lightning fast, we all know that, but I'd argue he's far less susceptible now to be taken to the cleaners than he was a couple of years ago.
Certainly if the best you can come up with over the last year or so is a game that we won without conceding and for which he got MotM then I'm sure we can all afford to relax a little.

I agree he needs a bit more protection than the top full backs defensively. Makes up for it easily with his attacking play, particularly when compared to Aurier who also has problems defensively.
Still going there's more to come from him settling in as our clear first choice.

Just because we won a game doesn’t mean everyone was brilliant for 90 mins and doesn’t have to work to improve aspects of their game.
I don’t want to trash Trippier or belabour the point as he’s improved a lot over the last 12 months. I don’t think it’s harsh to say he still needs to improve defensively however.

Everyone needs to improve, even Messi. That said, Trippier has already improved dramatically over the last year and will hopefully go on improving. He is a right wingback who's main strength is in going forward. You'd struggle to name too many better all-round RWBs. Anyone who's good enough to knock Kyle Walker off his perch has to be decent both defensively and going forward.

Put this in here because i thought he's another one whose contracted world cup'itis after Saturdays game........second goal very poor positioning....and if anyone saw goals on sunday,where for some godly reason him and Dier were giving each other a cuddle on the goal line for the first goal,even claiming he was being held,infact it was Dier holding onto him,comedy gold,work it out lads please.

Wouldn't argue with that, but the real problem for me was playing 2 CBs and two WBs which was asking for trouble. We really needed Sanchez in there as a sweeper.
I think all of our full-backs are more suited to the wing-back role with a back 3 behind them, but particularly Trippier.

I presume before the game Poch was thinking "OK, let's be brave, if we have Dembele and Winks in midfield we can turn and play and create, Dier shielding the back line, this is going to be good" but in reality the midfield 3 were scared, turned back, dithered, outfought etc.
Strange he played a diamond with Dier right, Dembele at the base, I would have expected Dier holding with Winks/Dembele more license to supply the front 3

I wish managers would stop putting Trippier on the post for corners. Was it against Colombia or Croatia that he also got left a foot underneath one, that bounced up under the crossbar?
