Kieran Trippier

Christian Eriksen.

Was one of our best players at this World Cup, and showed just how good he is. His goal will live long in the memory and rightly loved by the whole country.
Sorry but Eriksen isnt a good enough reason. He doesnt score many free kicks, and his corners are to be polite average. At the worst should be rotating the free kicks with Trippier and would much rather Trippier taking corners, something he began to do last season I believe....

I see where you're coming from, but if that's the case then Ronaldo should give up his position as the dead ball specialist given his goals to free kicks ratio. Trippier certainly has given Poch an a nice headache though.

I didnt say he should give up taking them, and Im not sure what doing well at the crossbar challenge proves? He doesnt score many free kicks so if we have someone else who is good at them he should have as much of an opportunity as Eriksen at taking them.....

Any why not?

Prior to the free kick against Spain that was over 40 free kicks without a goal, now that is pathetic.

In the same vein Messi has missed 4 of his last 7 penalties for club and country, and that is also pathetic, but no one dare take him of penalties because he is Messi

And by the way, apart from the direct free kick against Aston Villa which got a free kick how many goals has Kane actually scored from free kicks

"Only Neymar (23), Kevin De Bruyne (16) and Luka Modric (14) have created more chances at the World Cup than Trippier (13), leading many to compare the Tottenham full-back to former England captain David Beckham."

I for one definitely want him to take more set pieces.

Do you guys think Poch will consider going back to a back 3 this season considering with a fit Rose and also considering how well Trippier played during the WC?

I think that he has benefited from having three central defenders behind him, giving him licence to get forward more.
.

This for me as well, i said in another thread that Tripper has been one of our best players this W/C and that is because the system three CB"s suits him. In a four he is caught out on occasions and if we are to get the best out of him next season we need to play 3 CB's again.

I think it does give him something to think about. Switching back to three at the back means dropping one of the three behind the striker. This is probably less of a problem at the beginning of the season where Son could lead the line with Eriksen and one of Moura and Lamela alongside, to give some of our WC players a rest but it does mean that when we are at full strength we will have Son, Lamela and Moura sitting it out (unless Eriksen or Dele drop back into midfield).

It’s such a great problem to have. Gives the opposition something to really think about - which way will Spurs line up? And also means that more of our players will be fresh for longer.

I am inclined to agree, else we risk the likes of Trippier and Davies been roasted by pacy wingers like Sane and Mane

Even lovren looks good in the world cup. Let's face it club football is at a totally different level.

Leaving aside set plays which are mostly taken by Eriksen, Trippier has often produced that level of quality for Tottenham in the PL. Some of us have been banging on about it for the past 18 months but for some reason not everyone seems to appreciate his deft skills.

Tbf he has also had spells (like most) when he's been absolute dogbrick, eg at the start of last season; and he can be all-too-easily turned inside out by tricky wingers, but that is pretty rare and is becoming even rarer the more experienced he gets.

Agree and appreciated his whipped crosses early on too. But the world cup has a way of distorting the truth about players.

Aside from the corners we should rotate our free kick takers too. Not just trippier, but dier and kane seen to have a good shot on them.
