World Cup 2018 Group A (Russia, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Uruguay)

How can the commentators think Cavani was fouled? He kicked the ball past the defender and threw himself at the defender. Lazy attempt to get a free kick rather than run after the ball.

Both Africa and South America are having a poor tournament so far. In contrast, Asia is having a much better WC with Iran and Japan winning their first group matches. Uruguay are the only South American team to have won so far but they have looked unconvincing in both their wins. They could have easily lost both their matches against Egypt and Saudi Arabia. With so many quality players in their team, Uruguay failed to lift their game despite winning both their matches 1-0. Saudi Arabia played much better and were unfortunate not to score at least 1 goal against Uruguay.

Humble Salad at it again, in a row with the Egypt FA and might not play in their last game

Weren't long ago this happened too

The day after a weekend in which the England football team won 6-1 in a World Cup, the England rugby team won for only the 4th time in South Africa and the England cricket team completed a whitewash of the Aussies in a superb game, the top story on the BBC sport website today is......

we'll really see if Russia are any good today

Russia only need a draw to win this group. So, not sure if they will play the way they did in their previous 2 matches. But being the host, I am sure they will want to continue to impress the crowd in their matches. Uruguay and Croatia are the only teams yet to concede any goals in this World Cup. Their attack might be toothless with Suarez in bad form but Uruguay's defence have been tight so far. Let's see how Russia's attack and Uruguay's defence will cope in this match.

It's a soft group. Russia opening against the poorest team in the competition and playing them during Ramadan made it easier still.

But remember, the BBC isn't a cabal of 80s Liverpool glory chasers ;)

Saudi win it with the last kick of the game.

Someone at the BBC refuses to accept that Mo has come up with a nil-point, so awards them the win anyway:
