Summer 2018 transfer thread

Do you reckon any of our other players employ a team of bodyguards like Bale does, for example?
I never knew he had a team of bodyguards to googled it - hardly big time Charlie attitude but serious concerns about being attacked by Gangsters that his Father in law conned.

So no I don't think there are any issues with flights and insurance.

I don't mean that he'll be a know-it all prick. Just that there's an enormous amount of baggage that comes with that level of celebrity.

Kane and Alli aren't even at the level Bale was in 2013. Plus Poch has nurtured Kane and Alli since they were teenagers.

For me his fitness is an even bigger issue. Poch is potentially going to be quite brutal on Dembele this summer, and its seemingly part of the reason he's gone cold on Alder and Rose. In terms of age-related decline, Bale is the same age as Alder and Rose, and plays in a position where it will affect him quicker.

Kane is easily comparable to Bale of 2013 - he's the national team captain leading them in to a WC and has been one of the most talked about footballers in the world for a good 2-3 seasons, arguably he's more in the limelight than Bale has ever been - but it's not an issue because he's a down to earth model pro, much like Bale. I don't really see any of this percieved negative baggage that you're refering to tbqh

I still find it funny that people think Martial is better than Son. The grass is always greener and that... I bet everyone at United would bite our hands off for a straight swap. Son 47 in 139 over 3 seasons, Martial 36 in 136 over 3 seasons

I said Martial potentially has a higher ceiling than Son and I stand by that. If Martial was playing under Poch and shown the love I have no doubt you'd see the real Martial, not the one operating under that dinosaur....

I'm not against signing him. I just think he'd initially take Nkoudou's/Llorente's spot in the pecking order, rather than being someone we'd sell proven performers like Son or Lamela to accommodate

Youve a strange knack on thinking of players in absolutes.

Im not sure Ive seen anyone state Martial is better than Son, but Im also not sure how you can be so certain he isnt.

The guy is a young player, full of potential, stiffled under bricky managers.

Personally I think a move, particularly somewhere like here, could really ignite his career
.

This for me as well the kid is still only 22 and his best years are in front of him, he has bags of ability and Poch is just the man to bring it out of him.

Or was he just quick and up against crap French league defences, the same as Njie, Nkoudou, Lacazette etc? The jury is still out for now

I think you are judging him harshly mate, he was voted best under21 player in Europe and has also played for France through all the ages. He has not progressed as much as he would like but Utd have that many forward players it"s a lottery under Jose.

I have family who are ST holders at Utd and they all believe he should be in the team.

People have this strange idea that Martial hasn't been good for United. If you look at this chart, you'll see how excellent he was this season (and how good Sonny is as well). He's basically in there with all the elite attackers in the Prem, even though he's younger than all of them bar Jesus, played in a pretty defensive team, and almost never played central striker (which he obv wouldn't for us).

I think if we're gonna spend big money on an attacker this summer (which I'm not 1000% sure we need), he'd be at the top of my list. To me, he's miles ahead of Zaha, Jay Rodriguez, or any other Prem-based attacker we've been linked with (idk about the continent-based players).

I'd also be excited about the signing, b/c Martial has obviously been on Poch's list for the last few years, and it'd be great to see Daniel get Poch one of his main targets.

Excellent post. These are the kind of analytics Lollerpool have been using, which landed them Mane, Firmino, and Salad. And of all the players that we could conceivably sign, Martial is at the top of the list and young too.

I wouldn't disagree on the EPL based options, but I'd have him behind Pulisic and Arp from Germany

Pulisic's numbers were way down in the Bundesliga this year, but he'd definitely be an exciting signing. Haven't seen Arp at all, but he's meant to be a great prospect. Would def be happy for either of those guys to come.

Really!!!!

Both haven’t performed at this level and would be a gamble

I won’t disgaree that martial would be a slight gamble but he has done pretty damn well here so far

When did we actually last sign a player from United? I’m struggling to think.

Not counting Frazier Campbell....

I also think, with Martial, you have a guy who has proven that he can play down the middle as a central striker. Maybe Pulisic could, but he's been mostly used off the wing for BVB and the USMNT.

Interesting, Does this mean Morata hasn’t been the flop he appears to have been?
