Harry Winks

The way he an changed reminds me of Kane

From scrawny kid to being a man

He is 20 now so it's normal but being bigger and stronger gives him a great chance to fulfill his potential

Though Kane is a lot taller. Winks, at 5 foot 9, might be better off staying kid-like size in a similar way to Modric. Modric has wirey stregth and benefits from weighting about 3 stones

Another promising display last night I thought. Not an eye-grabbing performance, but showed lots of tenacity on and off the ball, some calmness and composure on it, and the occasional decent pass.

Would love to see him play a full game alongside more of our first team players, as GNK, Carroll and Onomah were all awful last night.

Don't want to slag Young players off but he was as bad as those players - bar carroll. He got ran through and ragdolled, left Dier exposed and he gave the ball away several times in super dangerous areas. That is an Uber critical analysis but he did not play well and he played very much like an academy player out of his depth.

He is a bit more new than Onomah so fans want to keep the faith and big him up - give it a few more games and fans will turn on this guy too as 'he doesn't do much'.

I like winks a lot but he too was poor last night. Perhaps it has something to do with being dumped into a reserve side and having little to no game time to get any confidence or momentum. It's very tough to shine in that scenario and poch should have included one or two more first teamers to add experience and guile - we ain't winning the CL or theleague (imo) so I would love us to win a cup. 3 trophies in my lifetime FFS

You have to remember that we played 4-2-3-1 last night vs their 4-3-3....and that difference in numbers in the midfield is compounded by them being a pressing team. It doesn't surprise me too much that he was consistently harried and challenged more than normal. In the circumstances, I actually though he was quite good

Winks looks to have regressed, if this continues he will be following the normal route out of the club to Hull and the like.

We need to see some grit and determination installed at an earlier age than Winks and Onomah because I think it's too late at 18-21 or what ever e.g. more Dele's please.

Regressed since when?

Looked excellent in preseason. got caught with ball last night most un Winks like. Needs regular football IMHO.

As I said above, we had 2 in CM whereas they had 3 and on top of that are a pressing team. Not surprised he got caught with the ball! I think his role in the squad is perfect for him this year given he's getting some reasonable game time

He's better than the games we will give him in FA cup needs regular weekly football imho

I don't think we can afford to loan him out given we don't have a natural replacement for Dembele. Dele is less effective in CM so it means we have to play 4-1-4-1 rather than 4-2-3-1 where we like it or not if Dembele isn't available

So far this season we've looked better in a 4-1-4-1/4-3-3 without Dembele than in the 4-2-3-1 with Dembele. So far Winks hasn't been getting much game time at all as the "natural Dembele replacement". I hope that changes as he seems to have something about him, but not a lot of game time for him if it doesn't.

Really? Dembele has played so few games I am not sure how you can come to that conclusion. I know, like GB, you like your so called "passing midfielders" rather than your ball carriers like Wanyama and Dembele, perhaps that clouds your judgment.

I do have a preference for quick passing midfielders.

I'm not saying that we haven't been as good beacuse of Dembele. Though his very understandable lack of match fitness has been quite evident.

What I'm saying is that we've looked better when playing the 4-1-4-1/4-3-3 formation with Alli and Eriksen (or others) as two box to box midfielders ahead of Wanyama. Making the point about Winks (who the thread is about) as our only direct Dembele replacement somewhat moot, as we're looking more likely to play a different formation than bring him into the side for Dembele.

What part of my judgmeent is clouded exactly?

Your assessments of dembele and Wanyama are normally much harsher than your assessments of Lamela and Eriksen. Frankly if either Lamela or Eriksen could have an effect on our team the way Dembele did last season, or affect our offensive play in the same way as Wanyama influences our defensive play we wouldn't be having such a problem scoring goals.
