Moussa Sissoko

Just seen the Telegraph piece, and I swear, the thread I started was in my head right after the deal was confirmed and out of my finger without seeing it! Genuinely happy to see that MOST people understand why it was a good deal to do.

Basically swapped out Benteleb and Mason for him at near zero cost (including wages I would imagine) - is this a good deal, not sure but it does put it into perspective

I'm equally as surprised but what Poch has proven he can do is take a player with talent and make them more consistent (Dembele, Lamela). At least we know that Sissoko on his best day is a pretty good player. In terms of relegated players that have gone on to be a success - Defoe, Kevin Prince Boateng (Portsmouth to Milan), Carrick, Julio Cesar (QPR to Benfica), Ravanelli, Juninho, and Harry Kewell. I don't think we have a long history of signing brick players from relegated teams. Defoe, Carrick, Parker. Trippier is not brick.

My point was not that relegated players cannot go on to be successes. Obviously plenty of good players get relegated from time to time. But when that happens, those players are usually their club's star players, the shining lights in the squad and their fan base grudgingly accepts they are too good to be playing with them in the lower leagues.

My point was that, how many players get relegated and are despised by their fans for a lack of effort and also a lack of technical ability then go on to be big successes elsewhere? West Ham fans loved Parker until he joined us. Defoe and Carrick were youngsters who took some time playing in the lower leagues to prove themselves worthy of another crack in the big time. How many players at the peak of their careers who are regarded as bottle jobs by their fans for a number of years who get relegated at peak age suddenly morph into consistent, top class players?

Rumour has it that Poch told Levy that he wanted Sissoko regardless of cost and thats what Levy delivered.

For me thats the important thing, he has given the manager the backing he needs to do his job.

Then its up to Poch to deliver.

The Telegraph claim Mauricio Pochettino told Daniel Levy to sign Moussa Sissoko for whatever it cost. #THFC

Imagine the phone call through gritted teeth "yes we'll pay the £30m..."

Anyone have an informed opinion on whether Sissoko is better suited to the 2 or 3 in our 4-2-3-1? And/or where Poch plans to play him predominantly?

His stats make him look like he's not particularly suited to either!

not a clue where Sissoko will predominantly other than at a guess 'right attacking midfield 'ish'?

Makes you wonder how managers coped without all these stats. I'd never had signed Greaves, bet his tackling, heading, work-rate were brick

I don't know if these have already been posted, but here goes (lights blue touch paper and stands back a safe distance):

“Arsenal were my favorite club when I was young and my idol was Patrick Vieira. I have always loved this club and I still love them.”

“If Arsene Wenger calls, I’ll have a man-to-man discussion with him and then we’ll see. Arsenal has always been the club of my heart.”

Moussa is a Yid?

Let's be honest here anyone of us who've played the game would sign for any club that offered us a professional contract, to say otherwise is just childish.

All I know about this guy is that someone on our factory floor told me we were buying him for £25M yesterday morning. I told him there's no fudging way we're that stupid.

That said, his highlights (usual caveats applied) show a player who can break the press. Currently Dembele is the only one in our squad we can rely on to do that, and we've all seen how we perform under the press without that ability.

Well, this one didn't go the way I predicted; I think I'd have given you very long odds on Levy twisting at that price. Only deepens the mystery of why we didn't appear to be in for Mane, really, considering Pochettino called him out specifically as being the type he wanted to add... unless we were, but got knocked back privately. My thought is that I can see this going one of two ways: either he'll amaze us all with his application and the price of humble pie will go up, or else he'll be training with the kids by Christmas. I'm definitely skeptical, but bonne chance proving the doubters wrong, Moussa, and welcome to Tottenham.

He will have to adopt to Poch's philosophy in terms of work ethic. If he does, he'll be worth the money.

It's a big IF though.

Or maybe it's a given.

None of us really know how he trains or how he applies himself when motivated, Lloris has seen this first hand and approved so I'm guessing all the negativity about him stems from his time in a very poor Saudi Sportswashing Machine outfit who would've had no motivation due to not knowing who the manager would be next week.

Not really - I presume they relied on scouts, and/or watching the player themselves. As I've barely watched Sissoko, stats are the only thing I have to go by to get any kind of rough initial impression.

If none of us really know, how is it a given? He's had issues of inconsistency and work ethic throughout his career.
