Yeah, I know that feeling, sort of had it With Lamela and Soldado and Paulinho....
But this feels different somehow, probably because it was so sudden, but I think it's more to do with us recognising that we where missing something, and went out and fixed it, instead of just buying something that could work..
It's almost strange to have been thinking that we need someone with pace and ability to give room to eriksen and chadli, and then going out and buying someone who fits the bill instead of just buying someone who we've never heard of..

This is another Pochettino signing that I am not convinced or excited about. Surely, paying 22m for an Asian player is a pure marketing stunt than an attempt to improve the team. This will get us more fans in Asia but not sure it will lift the team.
Asian players have a very poor record in English Premier League. Regardless of their rich talents, Asian players are lacking in physical or mental strength to make a huge impact in the European leagues. They have done decently when they are part of a team with big stars like Park Ji Sung at ManU but have struggled when they are big stars in teams lacking quality.
We have done the same mistake we did with Soldado and Lamela, that is paying way too much than deserved. The huge transfer fee alone will be a big burden on Son, having to prove his worth. Son will be under huge pressure to perform because :
1) He is now the most expensive Asian player in history
2) He will be the most expensive current Spurs player (if Lamela leaves)
Anyway, good luck to Son. It is a big gamble by Pochettino and Levy. But hope he will lift the team.

I think you are wrong, wrong, wrong! He's already proven in a quality league. He's a consistent goal scorer in that league. He's adapted to the European game from the age of 16. To say that he is a pure marketing stunt is outrageous and shows that you've not researched his record at all. As for asian players not doing well here? Our own YP did quite well and certainly better than some other full backs that we've had. I cannot believe that you are generalising a whole continent for lacking in mental strength??
As for making the same mistake that we made with Soldado and Lamela i.e. paying too much? All I will say is that there weren't many people complaining about the transfer fee at the time of signing them. To buy quality and potential, it costs money. The only reason a transfer fee will be a burden on him is if the fans use it as such. He's young, needs time to adjust to the pace of the EPL (as any signing from abroad will need to) but there's plenty of examples of players that have come from Germany that have been a success.

I see what you're saying but I think racism is too strong a word to use. It's certainly bias but don't know Spurs7891 well enough to make that judgement. I think it's just the small sample size of asian players that have been in the EPL that is being used as an example.
But here are some more facts. 2010 world cup, South Korea and Japan reach the last 16 of the World Cup. Where did England come? Surely some mental fortitude is needed to reach that far?

Because, in terms of Europe, there's over a dozen Korean and Japanese players thriving in Germany right now. And they're having major impacts on their club's success from Kagawa's success at BVB to Son's impact at Leverkusen to name just two examples. The Japanese also have a few of their stars doing very well in top Italian clubs. And before Park JY completely failed under Wenger, he was a top striker in Ligue 1 at Monaco. Even in Spain, some of the top academy prospects at Barca and Valencia are Koreans. Mental fortitude is one thing Asians aren't oft accused of lacking.
In terms of England, it's more of a mixed bag. Park Ji Sung, Ki SY, Lee CY have all been very successful. Yoshida is doing well at Southampton. And I think Lee YP did well at Spurs as well before moving to BVB. And it looks like Okazaki has transitioned from Mainz very well thus far at Leicester. That's not to say there have been mixed/poor results from Kagawa, Seol, Kim and Yun. And there have been outright failures in Lee DG, Cho, Park JY, Ji, Miyachi and Inamoto.
However, a success rate of over a third for Korean and Japanese footballers that have played in the premier league is rather respectable when compared to other regions/countries in my view.

I stand by my comments. Read his post again. It is very demeaning to Son and other Asians players. What he said were
1. We bought Son purely and only for marketing reason (because he is Asian) and not for any footballing reason.
2. All Asian players lack mental strength to play in England.
3. Asian players only look good in good teams. I.e., the teammates made Asian player good and that is the only reason they ever look good playing football in Europe.
Not one word on Son's individual quality or achievement.

Those are the facts. Asian players have quality in par with the Europeans or Americans in any sports. It is always the lack of mental strength that lets them down from achieving more in the big leagues. Due to this, only a very few have done well in Europe.

If you are as obsessed with history as me, you should look at the track records of Asian players in Europe over the years.
