I had always wondered why the greatest keeper in our history ended up at Arsenal after 13 years with us. If you have not listened to the Spurs Show podcast this week give it a go, it is an amazing story in Pat's own words. I think our club treated him badly

Indeed.

But at the time, it was thought Barry Daines was the better long-term prospect, so Pat was cut loose.

Little did the Spurs board know that he would play top flight football for another eight seasons.

One of the worst decisions in our clubs history. The way he was treated was shockingly bad.

Correct.

This guy was one of my boyhood heroes and the reason how a Northern monkey from Warrington came to end up supporting Tottenham.
Hands like spades. And who can forget that Unipart advert he did

He's one of the reasons I support Tottenham. As a teengaer I was absolutely gutted when he went to Arsenal. I only got to see him play for Northern Ireland once when he was still a Spurs player.

Still a legend. Scoring against Utd in the Charity Shield, those one handed catches, two penalty saves in one game at Anfield, over 100 caps for NI.

As posted above, same here. GHod forbid we were born a few years later, things could have been horribly different!!

How long was it before we managed to score against him? I seem to remember it being years.

When we played the other lot, he always used to get a better reception from Spurs fans than he did from the Gooners.

I remember the season we were relegated and Pat single handedly trying to keep us in the division. Who remembers the game at the Lane against Wolves - I recall him making 6 or 7 world class saves?

Amazing. Agreed.

Agreed 100%, a disgrace, and full credit to Big Pat for never holding it against us like he could have.

Yes he realy is a true gent. Got to meet him when he visited my school as a kid. Extra kudos to him aswell for keeping the same hair style for 30 years !

@SpursOfficial: The great Pat Jennings signed for the club 50 years ago today – June 9, 1964. Read his memories of that day ... bit.ly/1pcM2sU

Nice set of trophies he won at Spurs: FA Cup in 1967, League Cup in 1971 & 1973, UEFA Cup in 1972.

Haha whoever made that decision dropped the ball daines from memory was awfull were as jennings was one of the all time great keepers.

Shocking piece of buisness :(

Jennings was a true Spurs great, but at the time Daines looked a good prospect, but like Mullery and Chivers before him was written off by fans as they were replacing massive favourites.

Says it all about where Pats loyalts lie that he still works for the club, attends Spurs games and has even himself say he is Spurs through and through.

Proper football man with a sense of loyalty. Shame the club couldn't have given him the same for longer.

Really? When did he look that? I watched Spurs regularly at the time and it was clear as crystal he was light years away from stepping up. Burkenshaw dropped one of the biggest clangers of all time, we all knew it, but of course he was trying to make his mark, to show he had no favourites.

He was awful
Not fit to lace pats boots.
Funnily enough did we not go down with him in goal.
He seemed at the time to be really good at ........

Oh yeah picking the ball out of the back of the net.

Getting rid of jennings was above not signing the too wooden zidane or carlos bergkamp kickaball.

Utterly shocking buisness :(
Set us back years.
