Your thoughts on this team....

Lack of pace on the flanks, but would be a fair 4-4-2 team I think.
A balanced enough team for a home cup game eg Stevenage, and might even do a job against an average team in a Premiership game.
Would struggle against the best though.

There is a reason for this line-up, but I would be interested to know what people's reaction would be to that XI as it is?

Here's my reason for asking as a "spoiler" (highlight to read!): There are no British players in this line up.

I thought I'd post this after reading this month's FOUR-FOUR-TWO, which is a "Foreigner Special". Apparantly, Chelsea were the first to field an all-foreign XI in a Premiership game in 1999. Not many have followed since, and I don't think we ever have. I think this is possibly the strongest, "safest" foreign XI we have got.... Dos Santos could be there in theory for pace on the wing, as could Pienar but neither are obvious starters for us in the near future.

I suppose I wondered if it would be obvious if we fielded a team with no Brits.... probably should have just posted this in the OMT for the Man U game when Parker, Walker, Lennon and Bale were all doubts. I mean, if someone had suggested this as a side would you instantly notice "hang on, there are no home grown players there?"

Incidently, this team isn't too shabby either:

............................Cudicini...............................
Walker............King............Dawson..............Rose
Lennon....Parker...Huddlestone....Livermore......Bale
.............................Defoe................................

Obviously had to cheat a little with the keeper - but technically Cudicini could play for England!

It's decent enough but seriously lacks pace, only ade with any sort of pace there, would be good and solid for cip games like you say.

WHY?

Nelsen looked very rusty in both games against Stevenage, don't fancy him for this game. I like Kranjcar but he also looks off the pace. They are terrified of Bales' pace and we should use this to use space he could create. As usual they will rely on set pieces so as much height as possible at the back for us and middle of park. They want a scrap and we've shown this season we can do that.

The team lacks real width, with Kranjcar and VDV both disappearing inside, the full backs would get occupied with the opposition attacks and we would lose. We saw against Arsenal that playing two players on the wings, that don't stay wide, isn't really the best of ideas. Other than that, I like Modric and Sandro as centre midfield partnership, think ultimately it may well end up being those two as Parker drifts out of the team in the next couple seasons. I think our defensive partnership might be weak as they have never played alongside each other before and playing the injury prone duo of Gallas and Nelsen at the back might not be too sensible. Kaboul played well against Emirates Marketing Project, a few seasons ago, at right back but really he is best served in the middle and so it is silly moving him wide.

Any team with Nelsen in it makes me nervous, replace him with Bassong and it'd be ok. Good technical midfield but not much pace going on there.

never want to see it happen

its one thing to be supported by people from all around the world, but we are a British football club, and I for one want to see us stay that way

Yup, was obvious that that it was a team of playing who do not represent the United Kingdom but I thought it was an analysis of the team. All you needed to have done is spotted no Parker, Lennon, Walker, Bale, Dawson or King and then questioned what the link was between those players.
