Modric?

Doesn't seem to be excelling in RM... thought he's had a few good games and a few customary goals.

I recall a lot on here felt he was irreplaceable at the beginning of the season.

With AVB taking the team a different direction, and with a clear need for a fox in the box and a creative midfielder, would you still want Modric back? Or has he erm.... been effectively replaced?

Given the choice i would want the footballer back, but not the person.

Think he would fit in decently in a three man midfield, him, Dembele and Sandro. Might be asking a lot of the front three goal wise though.

He started well and he is finishing well. They won't sell him, he's key to their CL strategy under Mourinho and a new manager might want Real to play possession football in which case he'll want Modric.

He's not irreplaceable... Xavi can replace Modric. The issue of whether we'd go out and get a player good enough to replace him has been answered though. :p

I'd take him back, but he won't come back. As far as a different direction goes, I'm not sure the team will continue in the same direction next season as I'm fairly sure AVB would have wanted someone that can pass through teams this season. AVB was big on possession before he came here. Whether AVB wants us playing counter attacking football or not, we need something for teams that don't attack... If he buys an average playmaker and only plays him in home matches against the bottom 10 it'll be better to have that option than not. (That said, Hudds, Holtby and Carroll offer 3 different types of playmaker as it is.)

Has he been replaced? Parker tends to do most of our passing now....

Anyone that wouldn't want Modric back, is an idiot. IMO. 8-[

But since that will never happen, we should be actively looking for players in the similar mould for next season. Because we have missed his ability to keep possession and keep the ball moving for us this season.

with sandro and dembele i don't think we had an issue with possession this season as much as much as finishing chances we created. and of course we lacked that creative spark from midfield, the incisive pass... but modric wouldn't have done those things either.

Would take him back in a heart-beat. Someone in the Modric/Moutinho mould is exaclty what we need

Er. For four years Modric was our creative spark from midfield. He can definitely fulfil that role.

no

id rather we spent the money on a Silva, Mata, Cazorla type.....incisive passing in the final third and the potential to provide goals and assists

I used to think that Modric didn't have a final ball now I realise that he just had very poor movement infront of him.. Love to have him back or a player in that mould.
Dembele passing also doesnt look as good at Spurs as it did at Fulham but again you can only work with what is infront of you.

Most players have a final ball - its the movement that makes a pass - remember that ;) Imparted my wisdom on you

Would love him back here, our CM this season has been poor and we need a player who can keep the ball moving like he can.

This thread is great timing.
I usually listed to the bbc 5Live Monday Night Club as a podcast at work or at home on the IPlayer, if I haven't been able to listen to it Liva at the time on the radio.

Near the end of the most recent one on Monday, Ian McGarry after making quite a few little revelations about Wenger's purchase of Cazorla (he received a phone call from a journo in Spain who told him "Malaga had a tax bill to pay very soona nd that if you offer 16M Euros today he's yours"), the possible purchase of Isco by Chelsea with a similar tax payment by Roman so that had first dibs (if he goes to another club Chelski get their money back plus 1M Euros - mind boggles..), the likely purchase of Falcao AND Isco by Pellegrini at City he then left a potentially big tidbit:

He said that apparently Modric has NOT settled well in Madrid at all and that apparently his family still live near our training ground in Essex. He said the payment deal for Modric was payments by installments and he thought Modric may come back to Spurs THIS summer.

You can listen until next 7pm next Monday on BBC iPlayer here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b01sj1mn/5_live_Sport_The_Monday_Night_Club_20_05_2013/
You can also download the podcast from here until probably next Sunday: http://downloads.bbc.co.uk/podcasts/fivelive/5lfd/5lfd_20130520-2216a.mp3

Very intersting...
