Re: BAE

You could have Baines if you have a Pienaar in front of you but you cant have Baines if you have Bale. The reason Baines is very good is because he can also attack but that will be nullified by Bale.

BAE ia superb because not only does:

HE.

ALLOW.

BALE.

TO.

BE.

AT.

HIS.

BEST.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

But he also can defend and play some great balls.

Nice post.

Baines is immense going forward... but he's (IMO) quite weak defensively... there's countless examples over the last 2-3 years of people getting at him... but he's helped immensely by a hardworking, disciplined player in-front of him (just like how Walker is helped out by Lennon).

And as we all know, Bale is not that hardworking and disciplined player defensively, as neatly outlined by Gary Neville on monday night football yesterday. So I agree with you! Anyway, we're not going to be able to get Baines imho...

Back to the main man. BAE is an underrated player IMO. He has held down that LB position quite often all by himself - anyone else remember the interview he gave where he was basically like 'Gareth's a great player but he doesn't help me much LOL' etc?? - and OF COURSE he has his occasional wobbly moments (quite often brought on by his occasional tendency to overplay), but when you're defending a whole flank by yourself this is surely inevitable? He has improved beyond measure since at Spurs and was one of most consistently solid players last year and the year before, and when he's playing well his passing is one of the most underrated reasons why we can be one of the best possession teams in the league.

Maybe this is all an irrelevent debate anyway, as there aren't too many - or ANY - LBs better than BAE that we can realistically get. Just hope he gets back to fitness very soon.

Re: BAE

--------------------------Friedel-----------------------------

Walker--------Kaboul------------King/Gallas---------Ekotto

Lennon---------Parker-----------Modric---------------Bale

----------------------------VDV-----------------------------

------------------------Adebayor-----------------------------

When will we see anything even near to this?

then again...

---------------------------------------Lloris/Friedel-------------------------------

Walker----------------Kaboul-----------------Vertonghen---------------Ekotto

-----------------------------Sandro/Parker-----Dembele------------------------

----------------------------------------Sigurddson-------------------------------

-------Lennon------------------------------------------------------------Bale-----

--------------------------------------Adebayor-------------------------------------

That's a team that really should be challenging top 4 so all is not lost. Let's see what happens when we get some players back.

Yeah, as you already pointed out yourself the only real differences are Dembele for Modric and Sig/Dempsey for VdV when players return from injury.

We can also replace VdV with Defoe instead going 4-4-2 and probably be pretty close.

Will be interesting to see if we go for another VdV replacement in January and/or another striker.

Such a shame that Ade is out for 3 matches now otherwise i would have liked us to start 4-4-2 vs shammers.

spot on

Sounds hopeful. We need him back:

http://www.talksport.co.uk/sports-n...t-assou-ekotto-verge-tottenham-return-186558?

Tottenham defender Benoit Assou-ekotto will finally resume training next week after missing the majority of the season with a knee injury.

Assou-Ekotto, 28, has been sidelined since the start of September and has only made three appearances this season.
The Cameroon defender was one of the star performers for the north London club last season and has established himself as one of the best full-backs in the Premier League.

The news will come as a major boost to Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas, who is desperate to have his first-choice left back in action ahead of the busy Christmas period.

Villas-Boas said: "We hope to see him back next week hopefully. He is making good progress. His recovery has been long. We are looking a bit more positive on that front.

"It has been good the last few weeks because we are getting good news from these long-term injuries and in the end these are players we need back.

"They were extremely important for the club so that will be a big boost for the club."

That is great news. We really could do with him as I've not been impressed with Vertonghen in the LB spot.
