Official Benoit Thread

If the past few years are anything to go by, he'll soon break down and they'll then go ahead with the surgery.

DOn't think he did, they said the rest was much needed and if all fails, he may need the surgery. That was the last I read.

I'm glad to read that not everyone believes Vertonghen is already a better lb than BAE. Ekotto remains a hugely underrated player in our side, and in a lot of match of the day viewers. I think we really miss him when he is out.

Vertonghen and Bale work really well but one of our best partnerships is Ekotto and Bale in my opinion, they both work very well together!!

When bale sticks to the left it does. When he starts to roam bae can get a little isolated.

defensively he has looked suspect on occasions, but what i like and what he offers a lot in an AVB formation/set up is the driving runs forward down the left and his link up play with Bale. This has added a new dimension to our attacking play. Very energetic, powerful, and apart from the odd one on ones, he has looked solid defensively

Vertonghen is not a kid, he is not new to the lb position. He has experience there

no he hasnt. IMO

he has been 'good enough' but certainly not solid

have to say though; in the attacking department even though both relationships are fruitful (BAE / BALE ) and (Vert/Bale) , i think i would lean more towards the verts / and bale partnership in the attacking department

i see BAE as a bale enabler but with verts and bale i see more of an equal opportunities type relationship...

Ekotto can hold down that left side on his own most of the time, and usually does as Bale wonders. He doesn't get anywhere near the protection afforded to Walker by Lennon.

Hence the enabling aspect of things...bale does what he likes, ekotto feeds him and cautiously makes up the attacking void on the left

verts though occupies that left side only when needed and with a purpose...and i sense that bales choices are not so cavalier when verts is behind him......

both are good , but like i said ...'so far' .....i think there is a better team effective attacking relationship between the latter

Thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiis. Seems to happen every time in this situation.

Sometimes seems like our thought process is if injured - Play through the pain - If still injured - Rest for a week - If still injured - Try some pain killing injections - If still injured - Try some more - If still injured - Rest another week but let it be known you might need surgery - Try some more pain killing injections - Get the surgery and wait for pre season to come along as getting fit by yourself is no fun.

Our squad especially from a defensive point of view now has options in every position so hopefully we'll be able to utilize it and keep players fresh and enable players to get properly rested.

Benny had an almost career ending injury early on, yet for the last three seasons he's pretty much been our only option at LB, playing 34, 44, 38 games.

Hopefully with the new training center and a squad with more defensive quality we'll see less reliance on certain players and less of the injections.

I will give my match opinion tomorrow and it will be a more balanced opinion than usual since I had to remain sober as I was driving! :D

For all those that keep doubting BAE...

Verts IMO was outstanding and only outdone by fatigue in the end.

Verts had no orthodox lefw winger in front of him so had to work extra hard. BAE has also covered for the wondering Bale so many times...

Can we now give him some respect? It's a tough position to play in at Spurs...

Benoit Assou-Ekotto @AssouEkotto

Seconde day in training ground...with sun... Very strange ... LOL

BAE

Great analysis on us at the moment by Gary Neville. His analysis shows how much we missed BAE and how superb BAE actually is...

He allows Bale to play
