Has apparently been accused of using "inappropriate language" towards two of Chelskis players. Any idea what he is alleged to have said and who it was to?

No suggestion of it being racist or abusive just inappropriate. I wonder what the FA are going to do about this, bottle it as usual no doubt!

stupid bloomin mega threads!

I agree, I don't see any reason why this shouldn't have it's own thread, are you supposed to read each thread on the off chance that thread has gone off topic and started discussing your point?

Not suggesting Arcspace was saying to do that, but just a general gripe.

This thread's the best place for it. Major talking point at the moment and most won't find it in there.

think this is worthy of its own thread

will be very interesting to see what comes out, the cynic in me assumes this is just Chelsea trying to divert attention from their own problems

He'd have to be monumentally stupid to have said something racist, given he's being listened to by the other 3 officials.

Didn't suggest any of the above and have made my feelings quite clear in the past on the current forum dynamic of mega-threads and selective topics - simply made a reference to an article I posted this morning

Clattenberg would have to be collosaly stupid to have said anything racist. I'm split by my hatred of Clattenberg and my hatred of Chelsea, but I'm hoping Clattenberg wins this little duel.

Why the hell are the ref's mic's not recorded though? Seems ridiculous to me.

Would make sense, that way any abuse or racism or what have you can potentially be caught and proved.

If this rumbles on I think we'll soon see all the ref's saying;

"..okay lads, first one on the pitch to even swear in my direction is off".

It may take a couple of abandoned games due to lack of players but they'll all soon get the message and stop the verbals themselves.

That can only be a good thing.

Wasn't that what the Respect campaign was supposed to be about? Yet after a few yellows and reds they call it off.

I can guarantee you that if Rooney got sent off for swearing a couple of times, Fergie would make it stop.

if it turns out all he did was tell someone to fudge off or some such then chelsea should be fined for wasting everyones time

From what i read in the papers, I believe one comment was to do with Mikel, and one with Mata. Mata was referring to him as a "Spanish" something.

I know that Mikel was booked for constantly talking to the ref, so what's the betting Clattenburg actually just repeated to him what he had said? Much as I dislike the guy - terrible ref who has stitched us up over the years - I doubt if he was stupid enough to actually overtly offend someone racially. Then again, we haven't yet seen a match fixing scandal in England and some of these refs - especially Foy where stoke are concerned - are very very suspicious. Yesterday was a particularly poor performance from Clatenburg, or a great one if he is actually on the Old Trafford payroll

I actually think Clattenberg is one of the better refs out there. Yeah he USED to be brick (and obviously the decisions going against us were horrible) BUT he is one of the better ones - whether thats testament to how brick the others are I dont know.

I agree he didn't have his best day yesterday (but Chelsea were due years of bad luck aren't they) but most times I see his matches he is usually good. I feel sorry for the refs in general they are only human and without the benefit of technology to help them they are always going to make mistakes. I ref myself albeit not even close on a comparable level but it is a lot harder than it looks. Even if you make the right call 80% of the time the opposite side will still yell at you claiming it was wrong and the pace at which the Premiership is played I think most of the time they do a pretty good job.

Mind you they rarely or never get applause or recognition if they have a match without incident it is only after a mistake or questionable decision they get talked about.

One theory is that Chelsea will wait a while for the allegations to ferment, before withdrawing them for some spurious reason, thus leaving Clattenberg still with an unanswerable stain on his character.
