The Football Games Thread.

I want to talk about football computer games, but if we did so in the official video game thread then we'd probably take over.

So what do you play? PES/FIFA/CM?

I recently procured a copy of PES6, as my PC is too slow for the latest titles and after doing a little research it appeared it's generally agrees PES5/6 are the best PES games ever (feel free to debate)

I did a little research and this Shollym fella has made a massive patch updating PES6 to the 2011/2012 season. I've been addicted for days now.. https://www.facebook.com/ShollymPatch

Soo.. PES or FIFA? and what tactics etc are you playing?

Pro Evo 6 was the best footballing game ever.

I have since then been converted to FIFA however and enjoying the Ultimate Team game. I am currently building a Premier League eleven and am playing a 4-2-3-1 formation, here is my current line up:

........................Bent......................
..Sessegnon.....Agbonlahor......Taarabt
............Cabaye..............Song..........
Taiwo.....Toure..............Luiz......Sagna
........................Hart........................

It's a very solid team and I am having good success with it. Taiwo and Sagna bomb up the wings as we don't necessarily have any wingers and they do it to devastating effect. Luiz is pacy and great in the game, I am currently in the process of getting Kompany to replace Toure and I think I'll be happy with my back four. Cabaye and Song are absolutely solid. Song wins everything, Cabaye sprays balls left, right and centre.

Taarabt and Sessegnon might not be household names but they are very very underrated. Players who go up against me must be like "haha, look at his attacking midfielders", but I let the players do the talking. Sessegnon and Taarabt both have brilliant dribbling attributes and have a good burst of pace to beat a man, many times they have done it and squared to both Agbonlahor and Bent to tap in from close range.

I also have the likes of Given, King, Clichy, Ramires, Palacios, Bosingwa on the bench.

Microprose Soccer from 1989. Best.Ever.

Also got a text based manager game from the 80s. Can get through a season in 10 minutes.

Fifa 10 is my favorite football game

was never in to PES though, always felt too square (up down left right etc) to me

of the older games, Fifa International (Brian Plank etc) and World Cup Italia 90 with the arial view were good

the original Premier Manager on the Mega Drive was great - "Gary Mabbutt has retired to run a country pub"" lol

Quite possibly the greatest 'simple' game of all time

Did any of you ever play Premier Manager (by Actua Sports) - few versions were released around '97 to '99. Very well detailed game similar to current FM platforms.

You can download Sensible Soccer from the above link and you should be able to download Premier Manager here.. Might look into it. See if I can change history ;)

I want LMA Manager to come back. CM/FM is just boring as fudge as far as I'm concerned. Too time consuming and seasons take too long, too much management needed for training etc. I want a manager game that can be played casually.

Edit: I might actually take a look at FIFA MANAGER 13 when it comes out.

Gotta agree, pro 6 was the best ever game before pro turned to brick. Tried playing fifa and although it is much better I just can't get into it

Agreed! I loved LMA, the way everything was simple yet fun. I loved creating my own team and adding them in for fun and building the stadium and training ground with ease, was a blast! Especially when play with mates.

Yep, who knew that one day, the mighty Wookie Allstars FC would take the Champions League! It was much more fun imo, I've taken a look at CM/FM in various guises and it is just too much work and I have a social life.

premier manager 3 was brilliant

I loved SWOS, career mode was so addictive that i used to come home from school at lunch to play a few games

How many remember FIFA '94 (it was called something else at the time but still made by EA Sports) - there were yellow stars around selected players.

You could stand in front of the opposing keeper when he was about to launch the ball and use it to 'bounce' back into his goal - classic tactic when in need of a few.

FIFA International Soccer :D

FIFA International Soccer :D

Yes!

With cut scenes to the jumbotron after every goal

Another timeless classic was 'Italy '90' - 16 colours of splendour based on the WC at the time.

Players were rated out of 5 and if two players had similar ratings the one with the ball was 'slower'. Man, those were the days
