Board Games

LutonSpurs

Eric Dear
With the impending doom we may be spending time at home with family so board games are a great way to pass time.

I have 3 sons aged from 6 to 14.

Currently Articulate is great.
We have Pandemic (yes pertinent)
Dobble Card game
Monopoly

What would you recommend?

My eyes were opened to the massive hidden world of board games about four years ago, and now I’m pretty obsessed.

Check out boardgamegeek.com if you haven’t already.

I’d recommend Camel Up for you and your family. And maybe Dixit. And Incan Gold. A few off the top of my head!

Well now...I've rather enjoyed board games for an awful long time.
Any idea about preferred style or theme?
Check out or ask me about any of these as I'd recommend them to a lot of people:

Ticket to Ride
Catan
Splendor
Cash n Guns
Cobra Paw
Camel Up was a good shout
Carcassonne
Jamaica
Forbidden Island
7 Wonders
Takenoko
Pandemic (!)
King of Tokyo

More like "bored games", am I right? fudge that, get everyone their own playstation to encourage isolation and start the kids on call of duty / GTA or something equality violent to toughen them up for impending Mad Max territory we're heading towards.

In seriousness, heckmeck is pretty good fun! I think it's dutch but easy enough to pick up the rules. There's things out there like Pucket (have a look as cba to explain) which is fact paced, good to mix it up.

It's not a board game but "who am I" with a famous person / character written on a post it notes on yer forehead is a goldmine, you can only ask yes or no questions. If you get a yes have another question, if no it goes to the next person.

To any kid on his xbox, this shut down will pass as normal.

Best 2 or 3?

What age is Catan good for? We've been playing monopoly a lot and even the kids are bored with it.

I first played it when I was 13 but I reckon it could be done by kids over 10. It should be shorter than Monopoly and still has some negotiating/trading element alongside competitive building of your own game towards the winning score. There is a luck element due to the roll of the dice every turn, but there's also the possibility for every player to have some involvement even when it's not their go.

Ever been to the UK Games Expo or Airecon?

I haven’t, have you? There’s a meetup group in London that meets about 5 times a week, so I go to that occasionally to get my fix

My most recent favourite game is Spirit Island, but my fiancée and I have just bought Pandemic Legacy Season 2 - very appropriate for these times! Will prob play for the first time tomorrow.

Been to UKGE two or three times.
A couple of my mates set up Airecon so I go most years to that.
