Why do you support Spurs?

Coronavirus doesn't mean the board has to die too, just us.

Why do you guys support Spurs? Who on earth would want to hitch their wagon to our donkey? Did you take the blue pill, hit your head or the wrong turn at Albuquerque? Did you join up last year and think that any team who were CL finalists were guaranteed value for success?

This is me: Tiverton Primary School - 1991. Just between Green Lanes and Seven Sisters.

I was 6. Some big kid, I can't remember, maybe 8 or 9 years old, came up to me and said: "Who do you support, Arsenal or Tottenham?". I didn't know what Arsenal was, but I knew where I lived. "Tottenham," I said confidently, jutting out my chest.

"fudge off you clam".

A dream started that day which I have never managed to wake up from.
 
I was collecting football stickers in Primary School and the other kids asked me who I supported. I had no idea and went home and asked my dad who the local team was. He told me Leyton Orient (they didn't have stickers) or Tottenham as you can get the bus there.

Ruined the next ~24 years of my life so it did.
 
Dad took me in 1981 when I was 4 to the league cup final when I got punched twice by a Liverpool fan in the toilets at Wembley
Had an Argentina shirt along with my brother around that era and the falklands kicked off so we did get some odd looks
Went quite a bit in 86
I was the taken regularly in 87 when he was a great season and the team that IMO should have won the league

bene going regularly since then And even had arsenal and united supporting mates come with me in the very early 90s as they could get tickets with us easy enough

I brain wash every child in my family and extended one when their born (spurs kit, teddy, bib)... and I’m trying with the neighbours son too

Because my Dad did, should have know it weren't a good idea they were relegated the first year he went (1928), he spent most of the time watching them in the 2nd division until the 50's. Two more generations following me so we should reach our century in a few years.
 
I got into football late (7/8), my two best friends were already Spurs fans, so I copied them, not spoken to either in over 30 years.
 
So my Mum and Dad were not really into football but if pressed my Dad would always look for Spurs results. My uncles on my Mums side were Arsenal supporters and one of them in particular really hated Jews. It stemmed from him being in Palestine while he was in the army when there were a lot of atrocities carried out by the Jews against the british army.
I was too young to understand all this and really started to like Spurs when my sister met her boyfriend (who went on to be her husband) who was a massive Spurs fan. I did write an article about it a couple of years ago. So in 1967 when Spurs won the FA cup, I was truly hooked. A year later my sisters boyfriend took me to WHL for the very first time. A pre season friendly against Glasgow Rangers. That was the start of many trips to WHL with him.

1982 mate. Was there for my birthday present, totally ruined by a jammy Ronnie Whelan equaliser through Paul Miller's legs 3 minutes from time. Our players were knackered that season, came close in 4 competitions and ended up with the FA cup. Great side. Going back to the reason why I support Spurs? Well, it could have turned out totally differently for me in the early 70's. Grew up in N16 then N4 and most friends were Arsenal fans. Dad used to go to both Spurs and Arsenal when he and mum arrived over from Ireland in the 50's so took me and my sister to Highbury on a few occasions. My eldest 2 brothers and sister were however full on Spurs supporters so would take me to White Hart Lane every now and then so it was 50/50 who I'd end up supporting. Strange really as at the time we weren't very good, relegation and cup exits to the likes of Cardiff plus a 7-0 defeat at Anfield and an even more painful 0-5 home loss to Arsenal and yet here I am still suffering. Think the big turning point was being taken to Highbury to watch Arsenal v Spurs and Jimmy Rimmer punched the ball into his own net from a corner. I think Spurs won 2-0 and my choice was made for better or worse. Despite the lack of relative success I cannot ever imagine supporting that lot down the road.
 
I fell in love with Spurs aged 10, night of the 81 Cup Final replay. Ricky’s goal...and I thought Glenn was the coolest fudger I’d ever seen.

Before then, I’d supported Liverpool; like most people growing up in Northern Ireland, it was them or Utd.
As soon as I was old enough I saw sense.
 
Always picked Spurs when playing Subbuteo back in the 60’
Around 1967ish when I was at boarding school we were very serious about the whole thing!
