Son Heung-Min

So I don’t follow other teams as closely as us but would that not infer Firminho hasn’t missed any Prem games, perhaps aided by the fact he is getting subbed off quite regularly? I don’t disagree there is a dearth of world class number 9s but it’s not like we haven’t had ample opportunity to plan a replacement for Llorente who wasn’t exactly prolific.

I’ve looked an Firmino hasn’t really missed any time and nothing injury driven. It’s scary but typical of what happens when everything is going your way

yeah we could have signed someone but the reality is as I’ve said before the market for strikers is an all time low. Most decent sides are going for wing forwards to cover for their sole quality striker

Out of interest... how many goals have these groups scored vs Kane and Son?

And some of these are not CFs. Their wide forwards playing CF as well
FWIW...

Firminho (10g & 12a) Origi (5g & 4a) = 15 goals & 16 assists
Aguero (21g & 3a) Jesus (16g & 9a) = 37 goals & 9 assists
Vardy (17g & 6a) Perez (7g & 5a) Iheanacho (8g & 4a) = 32 goals & 15 assists
Abraham (15g & 6a) Batshuayi (8g & 3a) Giroud (1g & 0a) = 24 goals & 9 assists
Kane (17g & 2a) Son (16g & 9a) = 33 goals & 11 assists

I think you’re right on Mourinho downplaying expectations . When I try to be optimistic, if we can get though those games with other players stepping up it will be a real boost to have Son and Kane back for the run in. And Sissoko of course, whilst not as vital I can see Jose using him to help close games out which in turn will keep an attacking player a little fresher
You got my hopes up with the Son and Kane bit but then had to go and depress me again with the Sissoko bit. [emoji30]

Don’t forget the documentary, Sissoko to score the winner in the CL final to complete his redemption story. Scara changes his avatar to a selfie with the statue that is erected of him outside the ground!(Edit: to be clear the statue is of Sissoko, not Scara)

That’s not league only is it?

Liverpool injury record does seem better than most, is that all luck though? Are they rotating and training players better?
There’s definitely a case for using wing forwards as they can stay match sharp if you have a number 9 who seemingly has to play every minute in our case, but if that’s the strategy you need even more cover for that position.

It's their throw in coach (yes, they have a throw in coach) that's made all the difference.

Can anyone explain why Barcelona can still sign a forward? Are the rules different in Spain or just different for Barcelona?

Football transfer rumours: Barcelona given permission to sign Braithwaite?

In today’s Absurd Football News, Barcelona have been given permission to sign a replacement for Ousmane Dembélé, a man so knacked by a hamstring-twang that Barça players even took to the pitch at the weekend in funereal fashion, every single member of the squad donning specially prepared Dembélé shirts. He’s pulled his hamstring, lads!

The upshot of Dembélé’s injury is that Barcelona are a little short in attack. This, of course, is entirely their own fault. Dembélé picked up the problem well before the end of the January transfer window, yet despite their almost limitless financial resources Barcelona chose not to loan or buy a replacement. Rather, they actually let one of their potential replacements, Carles Pérez, leave on transfer deadline day, joining Roma on loan. Bring out the violins! Listen close and you can hear the Rumour Mill’s heart smashing into a million pieces.

Any normal club would be now be in a tricky spot. But Barcelona have arguably the most famous production line of talent in the world in their academy, La Masia. Maybe Ansu Fati could get a run of starts, or Riqui Puig could be added to the first-team squad? Perhaps there is another star of tomorrow that could be called upon to play the final 15 minutes of another routine La Liga win?

Nope, instead Barcelona are going shopping after being given 15 days to sign a player who is already playing in La Liga or is a free agent. Naturally, they have turned to former Middlesbrough flop Martin Braithwaite, who managed nine goals in two years for the Championship club but is playing at relegation-threatened Leganés. The Danish forward would cost €20m, and could well be the difference between them going up and down.

Leganés, by the way, will not be permitted to sign a replacement of their own, another bitter blow for a club in a league that is already massively financially skewed in favour of the bigger clubs. Braithwaite will likely play a handful of minutes and not make any meaningful contribution. His Mr 15%, Ali Dursun (who also looks after Frenkie de Jong) will get another payday. Leganés, second from bottom and two points from safety, could well go down. That’s football, folks!

His performance on Sunday is all the more remarkable now. Playing with a fracture, he won the game for us. I think it is fair to call Son world-class. He may not be as consistent as we'd like, but he's up there with the best imo.

In hindsight, getting rid of Llorente wasn't Levy's brightest decision. He might not be the second coming of Jesus, but is a competent back up striker who did reasonably well for us. We should've kept him for one more season, IMO. (I thought the same last summer)

“hindsight” is the word here!

This is such an utter clusterfudge of a rule that Barca who loaned out 2 players and have a b team can poach a player within the league and the same club can’t evoke the emergency clause to replace the player they can’t prevent from leaving.
It all stared with the keeper and his broken arm in Escape to Victory.
Is it a massive surprise in a league where the money is not split between all teams and the government has been happy to enter into shady deals to help Madrid clear their debt?

It’s a horrendous model they have applied here. It looks awful from the outside and how it’s “fixed” Barca’s problem will become clearer if they play him
I’d argue it’s as bad as FFP for a cluster fudge of a ruling

When teams are top they always have less injuries. Also they rarely get contact injuries like we seem to get (rather than muscular injuries like pulls and tears)
When we were flying under Poch we rarely had any key player out and it just happens that way

I fractured my right forearm (i'm also right handed) playing rugby years ago. Had a plate and 6 pins put in the day after. I was told to rest it completely for two weeks, literally do nothing with it, very difficult as you can imagine
I was driving again within two days. there was no problem with day to day stuff. the one thing i remember the doc telling me was if the area had a heavy impact within the first month as the bone fuses together again it would re-fracture. i would imagine with the professional after care that Son will get he will be back mid April maybe earlier with a cast. will all depend on where the arm is fractured though i guess??

I broke both bones in my left forearm last fall. Partial radius replacement and 5 pins, all titanium. Never had an actual plaster cast put on. They used a curved metal sleeve that was shaped to go up around the elbow. Then, heavy wrapping. Kept it on for 17 days before it was removed and physiotherapy immediately started, where regaining range of movement and muscle strength were the goals.

One month and two days after the accident, I was lugging heavy Nikon gear into a football match and took a (minor) award-winning picture. But advised to stay well clear of anywhere that contact might occur. It's healed up nicely.

Son's much younger than me and has the benefit of the very best in sports medicine and physiotherapy. Here's hoping he's as quick to heal.
