Toby Alderweireld

Dude you crack me up, you really do. I love how you describe Toby as an aging centre back at age 30.

Do you know that both Klinnsman and Ginola were 30 when they signed for us? They were among two of our best signings in the nineties.

It is just foolhardy to want to get rid of a player at that age if he can still combine his vast experience with quality performances. And only a blind man would deny that Toby is not looking revitalised under Jose

No one at the club wanted him to go, we weren't prepared to pay what he thought he was worth.
As no one has been prepared to pay him that it would appear we were correct and he now realises that.

So he signed a contract worth £150K a week, so how much was he offered previously and how much did he want?

I am sure if Toby was available on a free at the end of the season he would have landed nicely on his feet with no problems

I don't think Toby is a comparable talent to the two players you mention. Neither do I think we struggle when Toby is not in the size. For me he is no longer the game changer he once was.

I would like us to develop another player for that role, with the experience coming from Verts rather than Toby. Plus

I on the other hand think we are a better team when he is in the side. I also do not see any harm coming from both Jan and Toby. Besides, until Jan signs we do not know of he actually wants to stay anyway.

As I remember it, and that's not in anyway reliable :(, we offered around £130k which he agreed, then changed his mind to £170k.

Bear in mind that was almost 18 months ago, prices have changed and he has been stuck on a lower wage.
All we are doing is back dating his pay rise.

It’s crazy no one came in for him, unless they were all just hoping for a freebie this summer? £25m for TA in this market is a steal.

Toby would have been a winner either way because if he had gone on a free in the summer he would probably take in £200k a week and a massive signing on fee. This belief some Spurs fans have that he signed because he had no other option is short sighted it is unbelievable.
