Juan Foyth

I took a look at Foyth's defending for the 2 big Red Star chances, in particular with reference to Action Hero Danny Rose.

One incident is after 2 mins, one after about 3 mins

For the first one, Dier goes for the header but loses out, so he is 30 yards ahead of play. Foyth makes the first tackle, gets up and goes for another block tackle, but the ball still squirts into the path of the striker. Meanwhile Dier has made up the distance and puts the guy under pressure. Meanwhile Danny Rose just walks slowly towards the action, about as invigorated as a child going to double maths.

For the second one, Rose just stands and watches as Red Star get in on his side, meanwhile Foyth runs 30 yards and slides in to make the forward miss onto the post, then Dier hacks it away.
I loved double maths! Probably explains a lot.

Great point about Rose though. He just looks, well, lost as a defender these days. Remember when he and Kyle Walker were arguably the best English FBs?

I mentioned how bad Rose was in the game and was told I was spacegoating ...

Hope this is the start of a lot more game time for him.

Likely still raw and inexperienced as he was the last time he got regular minutes, but I think he has the potential to be really good. It was just Red Star, but he did as well as can be expected really.

Looking back at that watching everyone but Rose bust a gut to try to stop the attack and his complete lack of interest whilst the play is evolving around him is awful.

Agreed. It makes me pine for the days of Pyo/BAE or even Treacle/Ziegler or even Johnnie Jackson...

This is my concern. But hope he cuts it.

I know many will not agree but IMO Rose has been stealing a living for a couple of seasons now.

He's been poor this season and looks past it, but was fine last season and along with Winks was the only one to come out with credit in the CL final

Well Stop! Hammer time mate but for me he has been past it for a couple of seasons.

Well I don't think JM would agree with you. If you watch his post match interview about what he learned about the fringe players, his preamble to talking about Foyth was "I give you a positive example...."

I was wondering what Mourinho was up to last night after praising him after he nearly gave away two penalties last night.
But it all makes sense now if Mourinho knows he wants out and the club want to keep him.

he has to up his concentration it our area for sure.
but his overall game is strong!
Jose will sort him out or ship him out

So your take is that he played poorly, but Mourinho singled him out for public praise to try to keep him happy and that Mourinho secretly agrees with your evaluation?

I disagree completely. I guess time will tell. Though certainly a big challenge ahead of him to become a regular starter at centre back.

Thing with Foyth is there is a good opportunity for him +Sanchez to be our CB pairing for a decade, if he is willing to let us wind down from our Toby/Jan dependency and he takes his chances and improves on his game.

I'm not sure he will be a starter at a bigger club, so he needs to be careful on who is advising him.
