Mauricio Pochettino - Sacked

All sorts of rumours in the press about one more game for MP to turn it around, away to Wet Spam. I hope not but I do also hope we go on a winning run soon.

Thought after the last international break the lads would come back refreshed and Mauricio would turn our form around. Our league form has been awful but im struggling to see who is out there that could do a better job than Poch right now. Not ideal to be changing managers now.

Come on Poch audere est facere

is it usually after this break that he turns on the fast tempo game? Would be interested to see our results over the last 5 years on the first couple of games after the November break, and what the performances were like.

fingers crossed!

3 points from 5th in November is obviously beyond any credit earned guys come on
5th is utter failure and unacceptable.

City are in 4th and we won't catch them, so if we want to avoid complete failure this season (4th or above) then we need to catch Chelsea. They're currently 12 points and 9GD ahead of us.

The performance in that final alone should be a stackable offence.

doesn’t matter that it will go down as one of the most gutless, spineless, most white flag waving final performances of all time...

not a problem he dropped the player that got him there...

poch has credit in the bank, don’t you know...

You're seeing a small group of players who have played an abnormal amount of football over the past four seasons, two of which were without a home-base, two of which have not seen the incomings the manager wanted versus the outgoings. I know, old circles but ones which cannot be ignored IMO.

I think you're ignoring the whole concept of Poch's front four, how they worked with great full-backs. That front four were always designed to rotate, shift and drop at will, supplemented by the buccaneering FBs and the solid deep CM platform. Dier has been injured beyond reason, Wanyama did his knee and that was the end of him, Moussa was always needing careful management and in the end knackered out for this league. I think to write off what Pochettino built as simply about "outrunning opponents" is really disrespectful IMO. He did what Liverpool are doing now. Where he ran out of luck is he was simply not supported, due to a variety of reasons not the least of which was the stadium.

The team spirit returns when you turf out those who don't want to be here. Simple.

I think your line "the cause doesn't interest me as much, the solution is more important" once again exemplifies why you are one side of this fence and I am on the other. Call me old-fashioned (or any number of things you doubtless will!) I don't understand how you can ignore the cause if you want to find the solution. Your method appears to me to simply direct itself at the appointed figurehead(s). Is Poch paid 8 million to be that figurehead/spacegoat for everything? I suppose that's a case of opinion isn't it. Not for me.

I think ironically, we may yet end up missing out on top 4 but winning the FA Cup. Ha, what a test of opinions around here the would be!!!!!

Allegri spent 280 million quid on Juve. Mourinho spent what, over 300 mill and was STILL whinging he didn't get enough. Do you really think Levy is going to spend that money? You're obviously into business/bottom lines and what-not. You surely recognize that Levy and ENIC are NEVER going to spend money like that. And if you're now on the Nagelsmann bandwagon, what are you basing the on? Do you seriously, and I mean seriously, trust a 32 year old up and comer to take this project on? Are you going to give him a few years to make it work, to work things out? I have to say I am skeptical.

Pochettino told everyone what would happen if things didn't shift.
"We know what we want to do with this club, it's whether we get the time to do it." THAT'S what Pochettino said post-Sheff.Utd.
I am not blind to his faults. He has made some big mistakes, especially with subs, and Aurier should never fudging wear our shirt again (should have been binned post-Bayern). He trust Eriksen a little too much for my liking, I wish he'd get a new coach to help refresh things inside and I wish he'd get a veteran in on board short term in January. He needs to get tough on the contract mob. More than anything, I wish he could project a little more positivity. He has work to do.

But I remain clear in MY mind that Pochettino is the man who can work within those parameters and build a mkII. If we sack him, I will watch him do it elsewhere, try hard not to be bitter and hope with positivity and optimism that things go upwards...You know what I think should happen, you've made it very clear in another thread how low you hold that opinion, so once again we disagree. I would say "agree to disagree" but somehow I cannot see this debate/discussion/whatever the fudge it is, ending until something definitive happens with regards to Poch either staying or going.

p.s. once again, we have a 2 week break where we are praying for no injuries and Poch has next to no time to work with the squad before WHU.

So, we both know where we stand and our opinions, and thanks for the point of view. I won't rehash what we have been through, but a few comments

- People keep referencing the money we would have to spend with a new manager (especially top level ones), how much do you think we are going to have to spend with Poch? If Rose, Aurier, Toby, Wanyama, Eriksen (none of whom are going to generate a large sale) go and you plan to bring in a RB, LB, DM, CM that are starting first team level, it will be a lot of money. And that is depending on not needing to move on others because Poch can no longer motivate them, add in the worst case scenario of us not making a European spot that cause one or more of Son, Kane, Dele to move on, then it's exactly in line with the numbers people think a top manager will want (with the difference being the top manager has a better CV)
- I'd love to see us win the FA Cup, said it before, I don't want us ever to have a bad result to prove a point for myself, rather be proven wrong every day of life. That said, just don't see it.
- I honestly don't know enough about Nagelsmann to have an opinion and generally avoid grabbing on to a name (I've mentioned Allegri and Jose in past because they are available and their record means we should evaluate them), I do believe we are at the stage where change fo change's sake is actually viable

Wasting time mate, even if 5th was acceptable, the fact that top 4 is pretty much dead in the beginning of November should be enough for people to understand the situation.

We are currently winning 1 game in 4, there are only 3 teams who have won less than us but people want to believe it's a squad issue.

yep, heaven forbid poch would squeeze out a little love puff, and it wouldn’t smell of roses.

Don’t forget some of those players have already been replaced
Rose by sessegnon
Erisken by Lo Celso
Wanyama by Skipp

we do need a right back and a CB to replace Toby and Jan. We do need to prioritise who we buy now around what Poch thinks he needs

Nagelsmann has shown so far that he can take a lesser side and make them better. His track record has shown that and his age is irrelevant

No it isn't, don't be so melodramic - it would be a poor season and one that can be explained away by a host of mitigating circumstances and certainly not a season that we couldn't afford a manager with 5 good seasons under his belt.

If people haven't got the stomach for a mid table/lower mid table finish i can understand that, however throwing your toys out of the pram and calling for a managerial change in Nov whilst a top 6 finish is still a strong possibility just marks you out as a cry baby AFTV wannabe

....or someone with higher standards than competing with Sheffield Utd for least worst also ran.

We are going to keep Poch until the end of the season as the available Mourinho or Allegri mid season are far less attractive to Levy than the contracted Howe or Southgate...

I understand the links to Howe, on the face of it a very Spurs type appointment. Young, progressive, attacking football...
Personally I dont think he is ready yet, I think he needs to build a bit of steel and resilience into Bournemouth before thinking he is ready for us, but I do understand the link.

But, GARETH fudging SOUTHGATE?!

As someone who forked out a considerable amount of money to be in the stadium that night (something I remain delighted I did, because until those clams Imagine Dragons were wheeled out, the vibe was electric) I have come to accept that I am still very sad about what happened on that pitch. I think the main difference is that for me, there were several players who talk and act billy big gonad*s and simply did not show up. I blame them. But I understand we all blame different people. BTW, just to be clear, I am not trying to insinuate that I am any "better" a supporter because I get to matches home and away in the course of a season, it's just that June 1st 2019 will always be a very, very significant day in my life for a tremendous amount of reasons, not the least that journey!
