Dele Alli

I still wish we had a player like him in our team. He certainly wouldn't have allowed us to serve up much of what we have this season.
Don’t believe everything you hear regarding the idiot that is Roy Keane!
He’s a head case and would not succeed or survive in todays game or society!

Absolutely brilliant player. Had a lovely combination of toughness and skill. We sorely lack a character like him (I mean back in his playing days) in our dressing room. I don't think Eriksen or Dele would've dared put in a performance like they did today knowing that they would likely be on the end of a Roy Keane tackle in training next week.

I dont see anything racist in those comments about Dele. I think the accusation though that Dele comes across as thinking he's made it could be valid - though none of us, or they, know Dele well or see him on a daily basis so hard to comment definitively. The celebrity girlfriend and appearing in the media all the time don't help him at all - they suggest that his mind isnt on his game (though, again, its suppositions).

What we do know for definite though is that he hasnt been the same player for say 18-24 months(?), even taking injuries into account, and he's the sort of player who if he's not impacting the game then he's non-existent. He also comes across as sauntering around a bit, with a touch or arrogance (like a lot of top players do), which also increases the narrative against him.

Setting all that aside, there is a decent player in there however his form is woeful at the moment. I'd prefer us to play Son, Lamela and Moura behind Kane at the moment and give Dele cameos from the bench whilst he regains his form, and leave Eriksen out altogether. Dele's contributions currently, or lack of them, don't warrant a place in the team and with our form at the moment, it exacerbates the problem.

Well summed. Won’t be long before someone trots out the “he’s being played out of position” line. But the fact is over the last 18 months he’s barely scored, he doesn’t create and his decision making is adequate at best. He’s not in the team on merit right now.

Souness's stock phrases and lazy comparisons with other black players are just what you're going to get when you ask someone with no inside angle and no more idea than the next man what's going on with a player to sit there for half an hour commenting off the cuff without just saying, "Well, Brian, I don't know, really". The author of the article is trying to make out there's some sort of dog-whistle deal going on, but I don't believe there's anything to be made of that. He should try it himself, I wonder how well he'd do.

I'd have Keano on the coaching staff. As Eriksen's personal trainer.

As I said, a head case and thug!

I love Roy Keane the same way I love a mad mad Uncle. He often talks total, and UTTER gonad*s, but I still like him. His Dele comments are total, and utter, gonad*s...

Keane was in a police cell at the age of 28 the Tuesday before the FA Cup final.

Keane has a weird problem with Alli doing some sponsorships in social media.

This from the same guy that when assistant Ireland manager completely derailed Ireland's build up to their crucial Euro 2016 qualifiers by releasing a book days before making every press conference a Keane sideshow. The publishers rightly calculated this was the moment to get maximum publicity.

That's just the type lazy stereotypical stuff that gets thrown at young black players still, unfortunately
Think they're all very fair comments TBH, don't know why you bring race into it unless there's more that I missed? Dele is a shadow of the player from 2 years ago and the points made by those 3 ex-pros could well sum up the reason why.

Dele is simply out of form and in his best form is a luxury attacking player.

Very hard to make sense of selecting him in a team struggling in midfield at this point.

Because this stereotype that some people persist in pushing that he is flash and the fame has gone to his head is in complete contrast to the type of person that he actually comes across as. It's lazy and something you see all too often with young black players that drop out of form

The black comment or any dog whistle type reference to his race is absolute assholery ...

Young footballer with brilliant talent struggling to make the next step up is not a unique story to any race/country ..

I don't believe Dele's issues have anything to do with effort or fitness

Im talking in respects to the lazy fame gone to his head, male model etc stuff that the likes of Roy Keane come out with - that's not fair on Dele who despite playing a role for a year and half + that doesn't suit his abilities, got his head down and done what was asked of him without giving any indication he wasn't prepared to do so - whenever he gives interviews he comes across as a mature and humble young man so as i say there must be something else at play when people resort to such sterotypes when they are completely at odds with the type of character the guy exhibits.

Mate, no doubt the world is full of racist, asshat pieces of brick who will use any opportunity to have a go.

Agree with you on Dele, but even if I didn't, it wouldn't matter, anyone who watches the guy can see he's fit, he puts in a shift, he's doing the right things. His form is absolute brick and he needs real help (coaching) in what his game needs to become.

Looks to me like he's trying, but brick out of confidence. Should be benched, and brought back into a winning team, or against easy cup opposition. Same for Winks.

I've said this before he should get a load of dvd's of Frank Lampard scoring career,why...his career started with a bang but can you remember his career dipping as long as Ali has...never,his scoring record is there to be seen, timing of getting in the box shooting at the right time....if there wasn't this Chelsea/Tottenham thing and their transfer ban Chelsea would pay what ever Tottenham would ask for him. I'm not sure what has happened ,perhaps getting a new contract worth 100k + a week,at his age,his social life and maybe sitting on his arse playing fortitude for 16 hours a day maybe ...

I thought he may have picked up in the last few games but yesterday again game just drifted by again....
