The transfer window thread.

I'd like to see more of these types of signings, feel like we haven't invested in as many of these young potential signings as we have previously. I've read lots of stories of players being on trial etc though so maybe the standards/scouting is just a bit more thorough now.

I had a scan through the England youth squads the other day and I could only see three Spurs players in the u21/20/19s (Sess would be 4th) which is quite telling of the standard of youngsters we are bringing through.

I can’t recall a time when we had so few?

I get it’s only 1 National team, however the clubs goal was to have a brilliant youth team supplying the first team

I guess Omanoah who we sold would have been in there and the young guy who was supposed to be Messi like skilwise but had a terrible attitude (think he moved to Holland) would have been 2 more and guess KWP is now too old but yeah usually we have plenty of them - not sure what our scouting network is like now.

Eze at qpr looks more and more like a real player and a great value Zaha alternative
I think we were watching him regularly a couple of years ago (I assume for one of their age group teams). I would be delighted for us to have a little spree and buy four or five 18 to 21 year old players in and around the England youth set up from clubs in the lower leagues. You only need one to come good for it to pay off.

this lad has pace to burn and looks to play head up which is rare

Wow. To be able to do that in the Championship at 21 is VERY impressive. He clearly has a lot of talent on the ball and a huge amount of confidence as well. Still takes the wrong option sometimes (which is only to be expected at his age) but what a lot he has to work with. He is especially exciting as it looks like he plays through the middle, whereas most players like that tend to have to do it from out wide where you tend to get a bit more time.

He definitely looks the sort of player we should be signing now and loaning back to the current club to continue his development. He'll be too expensive (and probably already Emirates Marketing Project or Chelsea) in the summer of 2021.

He was coming in for a bit of stick last year IIRC.

We were linked with him last year, so hopefully our scouts are still keeping an eye on him.

Notes in line above. ;-)

Eze played really well. Sad fact is, we have 6 players who could do similar IF they had the guts / confidence / arrogance / passion / grit to actually SHOW us what they can do.

Many of our players are absolutely brilliant, when they choose to show it.

we don’t have anyone other than son with pace and dribbling ability

the issue with son is he regularly forgets to look up and pass....

Many of us have thought Zaha could do a great job for us but not at £70m... but this lad would be a fraction of that and has the talent IMO

Taken from Sky’s euro paper round up, I like Alena just not a fan of taking players on loan unless there is a option to buy included in the initial deal.

Tottenham are in talks with Barcelona over the possible signing of Carles Alena on loan. The midfielder has dropped down the pecking order since the arrival of Frenkie de Jong and is eager to get first-team minutes under his belt. (Mundo Deportivo)

He's a big talent but wants minutes. I doubt Barca would include any sort of buy clause in there, but if the player really pushes to leave we might have a chance.

I can understand why we are looking at him, but I'd prefer to see us get our defence sorted out. All the figures we are seeing at the moment point to a really exposed defence meaning we need to find a way to screen it effectively as well as replacing 2-3 of the defenders themselves.

I would have no issues in us bringing in a stop-gap for the last half of the season if there aren't any feasible options to plug that gap permanently until the summer.

I understand, and I agree Eze looks a great buy at this point.
But my point was that Son, Moura, Lamela, Kane, Ndombele, Lo Celso, Alli can all make runs and beat a player and draw a foul and score... but they just weren't showing it (up until tonight)

Of course
But we also need to play for the future
