VAR: Sponsored by Chelsea

To balance the Luddite views expressed above

In the Bournemouth vs West Ham game

Bournemouth's goal was ruled out for offside, when they checked with VAR they realised it was actually onside because the man came from behind the ball

+1 for VAR

Later on Bournemouth's Ake scored in a goalmouth scramble and it was given, when they checked VAR they realised a striker was tussling with a defender right in front of the keeper, and that tussle deflected it past the keeper

+1 for VAR

Later on a Bournemouth striker's shirt was pulled back in the box, but after a VAR check they realised the striker also had hold of the defender's shirt, so it was not a penalty

+1 for VAR

And that is just one game. What a BRILLIANT system VAR is. Hail VAR!

I'm not clear on the use of VAR, I watch the puff before the games and Shearer says it will check on all goals, some penalty calls?, offsides and mistaken identity, yet last night I'm sure the ref changed his decision on a freekick when he originally gave Woolwich the kick and after the obligatory fishwives debate with both sets of toddlers change his decision following what looked like a chat with someone on his mike. I not sure that's right or is it?

Not sure if the chat or whatever is right or wrong - but was it the right decision?
It stopped a wrong decision with the offside ✅

It will take time and remember and it's new, so it will be wrong in many peoples eyes!

It was the right decision in the case of the freekick, but not in terms of how it's used in the system, if that were the case there would be a lot more stops in the game. I may be wrong but has any penalty decision made by the ref been over turned by VAR.

Penalties hide behind "clear and obvious" ATM so.........to be continued.
I'm OK with it so far. Yes, there are issues but seriously no surprise there.
The PGMOL have over compensation IMHO to all the "the game keeps stopping!" rhetoric and overcooked the 'clear and obvious' bit, it will evolve as these things tend to overtime, no big deal.

It was the linesman.

What was the situation on the Kolasniac handball? If VAR thought it was a pen could they have told the ref? If so, why wasn’t it given?

Some worries today

Jan's Pen
Dele handball....lucky we had the all white shirt on
Wolves penalty....surely he initiated contact
Burnley disallowed goal...did he foul Evans? He was not even gonna get there.

Not to mention the scoreboard after Dele's goal/no goal. :D

Shocking decision there, clear foul leading to United’s goal.

I can’t believe a decision has gone against the dippers.

That's not a clear foul! He sticks his leg between origis legs, and there is a slight contact on origis shin, and he throws himself. It's debatable whether it's a free kick or not. So not clear, and goal correctly given. Ref was 3 meters away and had a clear view.
