Harry Winks

Interesting that Winks is now 23. Probably can't really think of him as a 'youngster' any more.

The next three seasons should be him at his real peak.

I think he still has a fair way to go to turn promise into deliverables. I also wonder whether that has been hampered by him having to fit into a role that probably isn't the best one for him? That being said once Lo Celso is fit I think he and N'Dombele will take those two midfield roles so us signing a defensive minded midfield player will probably see Winks drop to the bench.

It’s odd as fans of other sides see it and rate him very highly

seems it’s spurs fans that don’t
I wonder how much of that is based on England Vs club and based on historic performances.
If you'd asked me 18 months, I was talking about him as a future essential piece to our success.
Guess we'll see how the season pans out.

mainly on seeing us play in the big games
It’s when he comes into his own
He was the best player on the pitch in the CL final

And that's kind of my point when compared to Modric, Carrick, Dembele - that dragged a team up or still dictated when surrounded by turd. Winks doesn't do it in poor team performances or against a team pressing hard. Which is why I think he'd be better in Spain, not the EPL.

Well the CL final was a poor team performance

and maybe those players shone as they played in weaker spurs sides

But not at the same age Winks is
Not arguing with that, just what you said.

Anyway, Winks is fine - someone at his age is going to have fluctuations in form. Like you say he's proven his quality in some big games, once things have settled down he will be the least of our problems....

I think we're now getting to the point where we need to stop saying 'someone at his age' for Winks. Perhaps in 4 month's time when he is 24? Personally I think he is absolutely fine as a squad player, which is what I think he'll end up being when we're up to full strength.

I am surprised that you are suggesting that the next 3 years would be him at his peak, it suggest that after 26 he is would be on the downward slope

What does this guy do? Other than pass backwards or sideways. He's fudging brick and offers nothing defensively. Modric my fudging arse.

thought today he did turn and run with the ball (unlike the normal backward/sideward passing) but once he run with the ball he then stopped and looked around instant of passing forward and making defenders turn towards their own goal

Sissoko and Winks dont work, I dont know how many more times we have to see them together.

They set the entire dull, predictable. sideways and slow football.

Seems him and Rose are still the current spacegoats around here. He plays with his hard, he works hard, he tackles. Today he played a bit more forward, his pass over to Kane was a nice one that nearly worked. Out of the two I would prefer to keep Winks in the team than Sissoko. But either way one of them has to be out of the team.

agreed, never fault his effort, doesn't help he is playing next to the footballing equivalent of Joey Deacon week in week out
