Jan Vertonghen

Is that the case though
Or is it a foul given anywhere else on the out pitch

I'll try to watch it again. But, honestly, it's the sort of sneaky play I'd want our own guys to be using to gain an advantage. Not a blatant shove, just a firm application of pressure to divert/halt an opponent's movement and buy a little time and space.

Hey I agree 100%

But to me it’s almost as bad as Lamelas

Lamela felled a Guy much bigger than him by holding him a bit. It was a penalty

Aguero literally pushed in front of Toby and gained an advantage in a slightly aggressive way ...

No it's not! You anticipate where the ball will be played and put yourself between it and the striker. That was the view of ex professional defender Gary Neville. Sanchez could have cut out the cross but risked putting it in the back of the net. Toby made it easier for Aguero.
The risk of Alderweireld putting it through his own net was much greater than it was for Sanchez. I think had it been Jan there instead of Sanchez the ball would've been cut out and off for a corner.

Hopefully Vertonghen is allowed out of the doghouse for the NLD, as if Sanchez and Rose give them opportunities like this it’s not likely to end well for us

Rose needed to tuck in though so Sanchez was not 1vs 1. Sanchez takes a lot of the blame but none of the midfield or Rose covered themselves in glory. Think the problems with defence are much bigger than 1 player. There is rarely a single point of failure. After all we lost 13 games last season with Verts and Toby mainly at the heart of defence.

Sanchez takes the blame because yet again a straight forward ball went over his head

True dat... without Dembele, Wanyama or Dier to shield the back line we’ve got into a bad habit of conceding sloppy goals in recent months.

Hopefully N’dombele will be able to fill that void when he’s acclimatised but that might take a few months and I dunno if Dier is any where near match sharp, after missing pretty much the whole of last season, to cover in the meantime.

I get that but we should set up to avoid single points of failure so close to the goal. The gap between Sanchez and Rose is far too wide with Joelinton in such a dangerous position, so a mistake by Sanchez gives No chance for us to cover.

This is absolutely spot on. In 2016-2018, we were making these mistakes but there was always cover. Now, we’re dead if a player makes a mistake. That’s down to organisation for me. We look very frail at the minute. We were a desperate Winks lunge from going two down to Villa. Whenever teams come at us we look vulnerable and, as you say, that should never be down to one player.

One thing that concerns me is Poch's repeated references to the squad being unsettled and how that might apply to Jan. The focus has largely been on Eriksen, Rose and Toby, but Jan is another one of those in the last year of his contract. With him not being played in any of our opening games, I query if he is "unsettled" as well.
