Jan Vertonghen

Genuinely though he definitely had a muscle pull against Inter, so hopefully he's just being rested for CIty

Watch Poch’s post match interview with Sky. Poch said he wasn’t selected as others deserves to start, he can only pick 18 players, others are working hard in training and deserve a chance etc. No mention of an injury

There’s clearly something going on whether related to his contract, not working hard enough, or some other reason for a falling out

Poch’s answer was similar to when Toby was put on the naughty step for a while

And there was a cut away during MOTD of Jan looking away from the pitch. Body language.

Poch has often said you sign for the club to train. If you're not showing it in training (effort, confidence, concentration, professionalism....whatever,) you'll be down the list for selection. Simple.

This could be a message to the squad that things for them are getting tougher, competition for places is increasing....step up everyday otherwise.....?

Thing is the competition at CB isn’t exactly that great is it? Verts and Toby are the only ones that can be relied on. Sánchez still looks shaky, and Foyth even more so....

Pretty clear there was/is a problem but of course he's never going to blab to the media about it.

Poch has had problems with some in the past and resolved them, but with others eg Townsend, it has meant curtains.

Whether Verts has crossed a line from which there's no going back we will just have to wait and see, but if so that would be a huge blow.

^^^ Yep this is it

I think the bottom line is it is quite likely that we will most likely lose both Jan and Toby at the end of this season. While it is disappointing the important thing is that we have the rest of the season to scout and identify capable replacements, I can live with that.

Given that neither have signed new contracts, I could see them both being rotated frequently this season. We will need to utilise them while they are here; but, if Poch is fairly sure they will go, then he’s got to start preparing for life when they are not around.

There is also the element that Sanchez and Dier deserved to picked.
If they have been training well etc, then they deserve to be in the team and on the bench.

Poch brought Skipp on ahead of Dier, which might point to Dier being seen as a CB now. Maybe Dier has been training hard to develop as a CB - therefore training really well.

As Harr said, the competition at CB isn’t great. I’m not convinced about Sanchez, he gets bullied and whilst being an excellent technical footballer, he’s got a mistake in him. Foyth is even shakier. Dier isn’t the answer either.

Verts said recently he's like to sign a new contract - I guess the tough thing agreeing the length re his age. I don't think he's been a contract rebel per se, like alder and eriksen

I wouldn't read too much into a 92nd minute sub when we were 2 up. That was just for skipps experience

Can't but feel we are looking for a crisis here.
Could it not be that Sanchez excelled in training and poch wanted to reward him, rather than Jan doing anything wrong?
Where is the conflict in this scenario? The drama-minded much prefer the notion of a titanic clash of auras with a hail of mystical punches and psychic blood.
