Dele Alli

Injured. Same hamstring. Has had problems with it before, as MoPo acknowledged in today's presser.

fudge.

These are the margins where I feel Poch might be getting upset. Targets in earlier = less stress on the likes of Alli and Son pre-season and the chance to work them in over time.

It is worrying that he's done the same Hamstring. If he comes back just before the international break, I want Southgate to just ignore him. It was a problem last year that Dele kept getting rushed back from injury only to go off with the national team and aggravate it.

Fat chance of that. For some reason the management of injuries between club and country is non existent.

Then maybe Poch (in whom we trust as much as we love Eric Dier) should work the players he has in the way that's best for them and not risk these types of injury. I also have to assume that all the players - especially in pre-season - are monitored in terms of where they are physically and should be worked accordingly.

In the last week he played 45 mins Tuesday and 45 mins Wednesday. Hardly overworked.

If anything - that’s almost no test at all in prep for a 90 min PL game.

Yeah, if Dele's declared fit on Monday, he'll be picked on Tuesday and play consecutive 90+ minutes on the following Saturday and Tuesday. While the likes of Rahsford, Henderson and Sterling sit at home nursing store throats or whatever flimflam excuse they come up with.

fudge England.

So no pre season is bad for these players, but a full pre season is also bad? We would have won everything if only every single one of our players could have that 0.75 of a pre season that they've been crying out for...

Well going by your example you can't blame the England management for that. It's up to the club to manage our players and their international obligations.
It's a sign of our success that we have so many players in demand by their national teams (and it's not just England of course). We need to be clever in how we balance their availability with our own priorities. However we have a manager who not only values national commitment, but encourages it. So anyone expecting us to tactically withdraw players from national duty is going to be disappointed.
Having said that, this pro national-team attitude should also work in our favour when we have player such as Dele so clearly in need of recuperation time. England should recognise our co-operative stance and give our players a bye when necessary.

I love the man but think there are a couple of areas where he could do with improving. One would be to have a slightly bigger squad.

Who knows, I'm just offering an opinion. Everything OK mate?

I'm well and appreciate you asking. Life is fairly serene, and is much more pleasant in the summer.

Posting wise on here I get it could look like I'm on a bit of rampage in terms of posts and often it may seem like I'm taking shots at people, but it does come from a place of wanting to understand. Just looking at the squad and whats going on, I don't want to be a nutcase screaming "We're all going to die" frantically but I am very apprehensive of the upcoming season.

Like with your above post, I always try not to generalize and understand that we're all individuals that have opinions that can reasonably change over time but what I surmised (perhaps incorrectly) does surprise me somewhat, sometimes as if we're the only club to have injured players and disrupted off seasons but then it's quite a novel idea that a full pre season may be too stressful for players which is may be a cause of injuries / fatigue as well? As for Poch wanting players in early, I don't see that many managers out there begging their board to leave it as late in the day as possible to sign players.

I don't mean anything personal by it, it can come across maybe a bit confrontational picking people's posts apart but I like to understand the base thinking...

Appreciate that mate and apologies for taking my time getting back to you.

Alli has been poor for 2 seasons now. We really need him to lift us game this season. It is time Alli takes his game seriously. He is 23 and no longer young now. He should make the world notice him again with his performances on the field.

Absolute tosh.

He hasn't been 'poor' '. His role has evolved. This hss been chewed over above but even if his stats have dropped he has been far from poor.

I think some people just repeat what they hear.

2 seasons ago he managed 31 goal/assists with plenty of game time back in midfield. Can you imagine any other 21 year old AM doing that? Imagine calling that poor.

Last season he played deeper more often (tactically relied upon by Poch to do the graft) and with injuries and on the back of the World Cup. Still he managed 15 goals/assists in 38 appearances. James Maddison by comparison managed 14 in 38, and is regarded by some as having a great season. Admittedly not the same type of player but last season you could argue Dele played deeper at times.

Honestly will never understand some people when it comes to Dele.
