Giovani Lo Celso

75m euro is his buy-out clause though. And those are supposed to be set ridiculously high, at a level that will never be met (though they are required by Spanish law to exist).

The fact that they aren't budging much from that shows just how much he's developed in the last year since it was set

They only bought him a month ago, safe in the knowledge they would most likely be selling him, so I doubt it means what you think it means.

Release clauses are meaningless, as whether or not they are enforced is up to the club (in the even they are selling).

They’re not meaningless in Spain. As long as the buying club turn up at the spanish FA and hand over the correct amount in full, then the club in possession of the player has no power at all.

The players contract with them is broken and the compensation (aka release clause) is paid, via the FA.

Doesn't mean the player has to go though.

Although hopefully/presumably not relevant here.

Or possibly anywhere thinking about it.

Could be a bit of posturing from Betis as well. We've really been the only team consistently liked with GLC, maybe they're trying to inject a little urgency into Daniel and co.

For his age and goals and assists he got last year the fee is about right. Though he looked hopelessly one footed in the videos I saw.

For the record I would have preferred Carlos Soler

You seem like you are more in the know with the players from foreign leagues than I from your recent posts, so I can't comment or argue re Soler or Lo Celso for that matter as I said, but my point remains re buying a 20m player for 70m.

It's similar re Brooks as I understand you're a big fan like myself, I'd love to see him in a Spurs shirt, think he's made for it. But yet again, we're one step behind considering the fee that Bournemouth got for him and what we'd likely have to pay.

I think it is to do with Poch wanting to sign players who have proved themselves.

I watch football pretty much every night of the season. Soler impressed me the 5 or 6 times I saw him play.

Well obviously yes! PSG wouldn’t have handed £200m to the Spanish FA just on the off chance Neymar might have fancied a change of scene!

I was responding to the point made that ‘it’s up to the selling club whether or not the release clause is enforced’

Brooks is just one of those players where you are in no doubt he's the real deal.

If that sell on clause has any basis of fact to it then it’s no wonder Betis are playing hardball for as higher figure as possible.
