William Saliba

He plays deepest out of central midfielders when he starts.
That doesn't necessarily make him a DM, though. I don't see that as his forte. I have a hunch that against attacking side it will be more Ndombele and Sissoko than Ndombele/Winks or Winks/Sissoko. Will be interesting to see how Poch plays it. We've got two matches against top 6 in the first 4 weeks, so we'll find out soon enough.

We rarely play with a conventional defensive midfielder. Sissoko and (I assume Ndombele's) principal role is to carry the ball forwards and break the lines.

The Star

But according to Yahoo Sport France journalist Manu Lonjon, Saliba would prefer a move to Arsenal.

And reputable Spanish journalist Kike Marin has backed up this claim by suggesting the deal is being held up by Saint-Etienne demanding a higher fee.

He tweeted: “Saliba prefers #Arsenal for a long time! The problem is $aint Etienne…”

Arsenal reportedly have just £45m to spend this summer, with any additional funds expected to be raised by player sales.

Do they check the brain for mental degradation during medicals?

Sounds like at this rate he could be a cabbage by the age of 25.

Can we not sign this guy from under the nose of Arsenal, then loan him to Arsenal just to make them look even smaller?

If we really wanted him we’d get him...

Its very strange this one.

Ceballos I get but this one makes no sense.

Why the hell would you go their over Spurs at the moment.

There will even be huge openings at centre back for us next season.

Not to mention the french contingent at the club currently, including their wc winning captain.

He surely cant be making the decision based on a perceived ‘loyalty’ because they came in for him first, they are far too dysfunctional and frankly a total mess for that to hold any sway unless he is breathtakingly naive.

Presumably because they are prepared to loan him back and we are not.

I think the issue was the player preferred the Scum, whereas St. Etienne preferred Spurs, so I don't think the loan back was the catalyst.

And I don't blame him. He'll get plenty of playing time there and after 5 years he'll still be only 23 and could move on to bigger and better things, if he's that good.

That's one problem we will need to solve at some point: we have such a good starting XI that it is difficult to attract young talent as their opportunities will be limited (see Maddison, Maguire, etc.).

If he comes, it’s because we are now a much bigger club with higher expectations than Arsenal and this is a massive embarrassment for them.
If he doesn’t we never really wanted him, he had no ambition, he’s brick and Levy was just trolling the Goons

That's true whether he comes here or not.
