Dani Alves

This would be a great move imho. Bags of experience, silky technique, seems like a good laugh.

Just don't think it's one levy would sanction nor one poch would go for.

I think I posted a few weeks ago that I would love to us to sign a new right back (with Aarons being my first choice and the youngster at Derby being second choice) but thought we probably didn't have the funds for the transfer fees considering our other priorities and asked whether there were any older quality players available on frees or for small transfer fees. Alves fits that bill perfectly IMO.

In the absence of any other signing in that position he’d also be our first choice RB. Streets ahead of Trippier, Aurier and KWP (i’m not sure how to rate Foyth at RB yet).

I’d cut my losses on Aurier.
Take the good money offered by Juve for Trippier.
Give KWP another chance learning under Alves.
Foyth as back up CB and RB if KWP really doesn’t cut it.

Sissoko and Dier as back up too, if we're down to bare bones.

I agree, someone who has had the sucsess he has had would be a asset to our squad, the same as Davids/ VDV did when they came.

Honestly don’t think David’s had the impact people thought but VDV certainly did

I know from speaking to players when David’s was here he wasn’t popular and of course Keane knocked him out in training

I have no idea how popular he was in the dressing room but in the two seasons he was here we finished 5th.( before that we were struggling to finish in the top 10). And his drive and leadership helped us to do that.

I recall Jenas on his radio 5live show telling the tale of Davids calling a players meeting in his first season and asking them something to the effect of "are we taking the top 4 challenge seriously or are we just fudging around?"

We changed our style of play when he came in. He was either playing in the centre of like a defensive wide man. There were many games where previously we would have crumbled but with him on the pitch we actually looked like we were turning the page from having a reputation of having yellow bellies.

Can't really believe that you couldn't see it ...

But we also had a better side when he was here too
In his first season we brought in Lennon, Huddlestone, stalteri, Lee Young Pyo and Jenas who all were upgrades on the players they replaced hence making us better

And in the next season we also added Berbatov, Zakora, steed, mido, chimbonda, ekotto on to of the decent squad... and David’s played 9 games so was not a key player (that was the season Keano knocked him out)

He was a leader on the pitch and you could see that from the stands, i understand we also added other players but they were all youngish and we needed someone who had " been there done that and got the tee shirt" and Davids had it in spades.

And it was just what we needed at the time, maybe that is why according to what Bedford says he upset some in the dressing room. He was leader and just what we needed and it showed on the pitch.

I agree. If nothing else, his signing was an important sign that we weren't going to be pushovers anymore.

Indeed, for many years we were pushovers for those teams who had similar players to Davids and he helped ( in a big way) to change that attitude.
