I'm sure the rumour originally was that Lyon needed it completed by 30 June in order to get it into the current year's accounts?

It's almost as if no one really knows.
I believe they wan to show it in next seaason financial as this season's ended in surplus. Hence showing it next season will also see another surplus.

I'm fairly sure that's not how negotiations or maximising one's profits work.

If another club offered the asking price, anyone but a complete fool would give us the opportunity to match or better that offer.

I am less concerned about matching a transfer bid, more matching wages

Beginning of the week, it was announced a fee was agreed at £65m, now they are still negotiating a fee. What the hell is going on with this player.

To give a little more detail, purchasing a £50m player with £50m cash is swapping one asset for another. It has no effect on profit or loss and therefore no tax implication. Certain types of asset can be written down at different speeds (usually when a govt wants to stimulate investment) bit I don't think that's the case with players.

Selling is a little different because a team would be selling an asset at a higher level than its holding value in their books. The effect is fairly minimal though due to the way profits and losses can be balanced against each other over the course of a few years. No need to get into that part though, because their comments on the player purchase side show they have no understanding.
That’s not how I understand the french taxation system to work.

Mate.
Stop worrying.
Again, whenever you get nervous, remember the risk involved in not doing proper business this summer. They are simply too great to mess with. Levy is a brilliant businessman IMO, the proof is not just out there it is tangible, and he will do what Poch does because the risks of Levyballing at this moment in time are too great.

Think this is bad?

Check out the thread on SC where they have worked themselves up into a crescendo and imploded!

One of the ITKs said it’s happening today.

Then they all went mad for four hours.

Then he said it’s been delayed.

So they’ve all gone utterly bonkers over analysing every crumb of information and misinformation.

The Melt down is immense. :D

You're right. Levy has never made crazy decisions like Louis Saha / Ryan Nelsen / Frazier Campbell / no signings in 513 days. I feel fully relaxed.
I sometimes wonder if Dan has cold sweats over Gylfi Siggurdson.

Basically swapped him for a left back and a reserve keeper in order to avoid paying some Belgium team a £3.50 sell on fee....

Ten minutes later Gylfi goes for over £50m quid.

Levy be like....

I'm calm about this one. Not sure if it's because I trust Levy or because ultimately I know nothing about what's going on so can't even give an (un)informed opinion.

I think the fact we're in this early for a player of this quality means Levy will back Poch this window. Maybe him and the Lyon fella are in a dingdong measuring contest, maybe it's tax year related, maybe it's just not going to happen or maybe it's a done deal. It'll become clear in due course. Be patient.
