Ndombele

Yeah, it didn't exactly sound water proof. :p
To give a little more detail, purchasing a £50m player with £50m cash is swapping one asset for another. It has no effect on profit or loss and therefore no tax implication. Certain types of asset can be written down at different speeds (usually when a govt wants to stimulate investment) bit I don't think that's the case with players.

Selling is a little different because a team would be selling an asset at a higher level than its holding value in their books. The effect is fairly minimal though due to the way profits and losses can be balanced against each other over the course of a few years. No need to get into that part though, because their comments on the player purchase side show they have no understanding.

Depends if you're constantly selling players at massive profits? Have to pay one day.

In which case a tax bill won't effect cashflow for what will almost certainly be a staggered payment.
He may have reasons to roll something into next year (Lyons tax year). The upfront sum might be quite large and also other staggered payments from previous sales maybe on final payment this year..so next year makes sense. Its not unrealistic, so can't poo poo it. Plus I get the impression Aulas not that keen on tax bills.

Lots of people on Twitter pointing out that Aulas said something very similar just a day before Mendy was announced, and he did the same thing back when we signed Lloris. He's known for trumperying.

That was my first thought.

Possibly he is trying to drum up late interest, probably he is just being a dingdong - he has form for it.

Is he gonna tell Levy he has to be prepared to renegotiate as the economic market is tough

We’ve done business with them since then though haven't we?

I think its a simple as the deal isnt yet done - but inevitable that it will be.

On a side note I think this signing will be such a big statement. Levy splashing serious money on a big player, looking like getting it done relatively early assuming doesnt drag out all summer. Also, a player of this magnitude who beasted Emirates Marketing Project in the CL I assumed would be going to one of the real European powerhouses but he is happy to come here. This is how far we have come, we would have had to wait all summer in the past to see if one of Europes finest wanted to sign one of our targets or not - Now we are dining at the same table....

Now Aulas seems to be crying..he comes across as an attention seeker. He wants everyone to know how tough this deal was and how he didn’t let us get N’dombele easy
