Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

A bit late to this one, but I just wanted to say that I 100% agree with everything @Robspur12 and @SpurMeUp have said about the Mark Field incident

Simply continue watching the video to the end to see how you can eject a person from the room in a non-violent/non-abusive manner.

He could quite easily have blocked her path and shouted to her to leave...

He displayed all of the hallmarks of an abuser.

But, loads of you are defending him.

Disgusting

Thanks mate. This problem is far bigger than Sadiq Khan. I like Sadiq and voted for him but he has made mistakes, (which politician hasn't?). The rise in crime I don't think is just confined to London but around the country.

One of my biggest worries is not that we are soft on crime per se, but we have created a perfect environment for organised crime to flourish. There something in the news about this a few months back from the National Crime Agency. Other than that I don't think it is being taken seriously enough other than a few high profile drug busts.

Part of the reason are cuts to different agencies. The police always shout the loudest of course, but agencies like the Custom's arms of HMRC have been cut to the bone so there is not enough enforcement on smuggling. Local authorities who I now work for have been cut to the bone and their powers diluted because the civil liberties rude boys fear they will misuse them. On the last point from my experience Police officers are much more likely to abuse powers than LAs. So for example many agencies do not understand the data protection laws and do not want to share information in the mistaken belief that they will breach the law.

The criminals exploit loopholes in law, are adept with technology often much more than the enforcement agencies, they understand social media and exploit the weaknesses of the enforcement agencies including the fact that some of our lawyers are just not good enough.

Lots of Police officers do an amazing job, but the Met has issues with recruitment, competence etc. Numbers alone are not the answer but ensuring we have well trained officers who understand the law and to use them more tactically. So for example I have questioned why the Police are devoting so much resource to investigating Grenfell which is ostensibly a fire safety and health and safety issue.

Finally the politicians of all parties have failed to get a grip on this problem as they have become so paralysed by Brexit. I cannot see that changing anytime soon unfortunately.

I hope I have given a reasonable answer to your question mate. I could go on all night but I would just bore you.

When you say police are more likely to abuse powers than LAs, are you talking about investigatory powers? My understanding is that on issues like directed surveillance, cops are rather better at navigating IPA compliance and following authorisation processes than social workers, who get up to all manner of mischief with spoof Facebook accounts and the like.

Yep because like you many people are fabricating the situation and using provacative tems such as "
He displayed all of the hallmarks of an abuser" which isn't a fact its just added to make the events seem worse than they are.

The facts are the woman was there when she shouldn't have been, breaking into a dinner which is a point people seem happy to omit but its a key fact, fact not crap like "hallmarks of".

Group of protesters storm dinner and got ejected, no more and no less...

All on the presumption that Johnson can drift towards no-deal without his government falling OR he manages to negotiate a deal with the EU that both gets through Parliament and squashes the "BETRAYAL!" angle for the Brexit Party. All very uncertain (I'd say unlikely).

Labour, meanwhile, could slowly pivot to a more 'remainer' 2nd referendum position and scoop up a large chunk of the 30-odd% that's going towards the Lib Dems and Greens in the survey of hypotheticals you linked. And if Johnson tries to go for anything but the hardest of hard Brexit, The Brexit Party will split the Tory vote. We've seen how that works in a recent by-election, where Labour won the seat on a low vote share. That can get repeated again and again.
If he's stuck then he'll just have to use the Raab trick.

The numbers are clear - deliver Brexit and he wins the next election comfortably. Fail to do so and we'll have some awful kind of coalition of retards.

I don't think the directed surveillance part of RIPA applies to LAs. I am not a social worker so cannot comment on their work. RIPA authorisations are now given by courts.

What is "deliver Brexit" in your opinion. What does Ireland, Scotland, and UK jobs and trade look like post "Brexit"?

If this by-election writ is moved smartish, and at least threeConservative MPs say that they wouldn’t have confidence in a Johnson administration, then I don’t see how Brenda can appoint Boris as PM. It’s not about him losing a vote of confidence, it’s about her appointing someone who can offer satisfactory assurances that they can command the HoC. I reckon May might be caretaker into another GE.

I'm not spending another 20 posts explaining to you again, only for you to ask the same questions in a couple of weeks again.

It doesn't matter anyway, the only way for Boris to win the next election is to be out of the EU first and in a manner that the electorate doesn't feel is BINO.

So based on timescales available, either the EU stops being so fudging unreasonable about their little Ireland problem or we shut down parliament and have complete freedom.

“Shut down parliament and have complete freedom”. This is what we have come to. Jesus.

That you can’t simply outline what “deliverer Brexit” is in one simple post illustrates the nonsense of Brexit. ‘Deliver Brexit’ is a catch phrase. The reality of it is highly complex and difficult to deliver (impossible without damaging the UK).

It needs someone like Boris to deal with such abstract concepts /guff that bears so little relation to reality. That’s his bag. Hyperbole.

Who’d have thought Cameron was destroying the Tory party calling the referendum?

I can't sum up thermodynamics in one simple post either - that doesn't make it any less real or negate it's importance

And you expect Boris Johnson to get a grip on thermodynamics?

It’s not particularly hard to sum up a branch of physics that deals with heat and energy. Far easier than outlining a Brexit solution.
