That is indeed the question.

Dont get me wrong, I understand the posturing.

I feel its different though when absolute statements are made.

"They are very far apart in their valuation" is a negotiating point.

"We have dismissed the bid out of hand and the player is not moving this summer" is something that is much harder to about turn from...

My thinking also, as inferred to in my earlier post.
To reject a bid is one thing, but to then follow it up with that sort of Jack's going nowhere declaration so close to the window closing, is very hard to go back on.

Time we moved on from this one i'm afraid

I think this smells of the Villa Chairman buying into the story of facing down Levy, as Jeremy Peace did. Well done to both of them for making a stance, but WBA got relegated and I wouldn’t be surprised if this new owner just doesn’t really know what he is doing.

In both cases I think the clubs over estimated just how much we wanted the players we were bidding for. We had Chadli performing well in Berahino’s role until Son came through and this time, it always felt like an opportunistic signing. I can see Levy making one more bid, and if they reject it, he will shrug his shoulders and say ‘they never learn.’
