Summer 2018 transfer thread

Its an odd one.

They arent being doped to the degree they will compete for real prizes, so I wonder what the motivation is?

EUROPA is about as good as it can get for them, the CL - with the current 6 into 4 - looks to be locked up for a few seasons at least.

They have already spent a load of cash, wasted much of it - are there FFP considerations for them as well? Its not like their revenues are particularly high.

Its an interesting one because I like Silva, and I think they have the bones of a decent side, but all the same the best they can do its probably "best of the rest", so why all the drive?

Presumably its something akin to when we always thought "we can get into the top 4 with a real push and perhaps someone being off their game" and they thing the equivalent of the Top 6? They will need to spend significantly though to get into the Top 4 and i cant see that happening so you are right its a bit of a strange one.

We will signs Grealish for 27m and that will be that. I cant see anyone going out the door at this late stage. Would be no benefit to us. Surely we cant sell Toby and rely on Jan, Sanchez and Dier all season!

I think with the new stadium and not being able to sell players along with new deals for key personal, is the best we are going to get unfortunately. I still have hope something big will happen but losing hope by the hour.

Usmanov has a point to prove vs arsenal IMO

They could compete with most sides with the money he said he would invest at arsenal

If they get their act together (which isn’t easy) they could compete with anyone IMO

Just look at what city did

Having also watched the 2018 vids, I think this is the closest i've seen to what we currently have in Dembele...and much more!
His balance is insane, he accelerates at great speed from virtually a standing start with the ball. He ghosts past players like Moussa, drawers the foul, and shrugs off challenges with ease.
And unlike Dembele and Dier, he seems to have the ability to thread a damn good pass through the channels!!

I'm sold. Hugo, have a word in his shell-like.

I'll add to that another consideration... Lyon play Chelsea tonight in some Champions Cup thing. If this guy plays, I expect yet another Chelsea hijack (use the term 'hijack' loosely, i know there's nothing concrete from Spurs).

Basically i just want this guy in. Now. Beast.

Im guessing NDombele, but - who?

The thing is, back then - it was a top 4. And we were 5th, and closing.

Now its a top 6, and they are a mile behind!

I mean, good luck to them, I like more competition in the league, but I just cant really make sense of it.

Im no expert - but... Can he invest enough to compete? I mean with FFP etc?

Even the like of City have had to (at least try to) comply.

Usmanov is highly vulnerable to further souring of relationships with Russia, and HMG is just about to make an extradition request for the novichok murderers, which will fail, presumably leading to more sanctions. It would be an odd time for a particularly unpleasant oligarch with clear ties to Putin to increase his exposure to high-profile UK assets.

Willian all over again

EVERTON MEDICAL FOR BERNARD

Chelsea have lodged a late bid to sign Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Bernard, according to Sky sources, but the Brazilian is on his way to Everton and is expected on Merseyside for a medical in the next 48-hours.

Bernard’s move is subject to that medical and a work permit being granted.

Sky Sports News understands that AC Milan were convinced Bernard was on his way to the San Siro, and another source tells us Atletico Madrid also pushed hard to sign him, while West Ham were also interested
West Ham United, Chelsea, Milan and Tottenham Hotspur have all registered interest in Bernard this summer but were deterred by wage demands of £200,000 a week.
